better stock up

I would say at least 3 oil changes minimum.

Might also buy an extra set of tires as well

2 for my truck, 0 for wife's car, I have always paid to have hers done as I decided I was too f'ing tired to jack it up in the driveway anymore. My truck, I can easily change the oil with it sitting flat on the ground.

Six or so on the hot rod.

Maybe three on the daily

Two on the diesel

None for the work truck.

Eveyrtime I do an oil change or transmission change I always buy fluids and filters,  which reminds me I need to pickup 8 quarts of dinosaur oil for the truck.

Why the head's up, is this the next shortage coming down the pike?

No toilet paper just cars parts now?  That's relief.

Why are you suggesting that?

Zero, but I am a mechanic and get them at work.

Why?

Over the past year I've had zero issues getting filters.

I’m good for another five years.
Free oil changes for the first 6 years when I bought my car so I guess that’s the dealerships problem.

6 filters for each but no oil.

I wouldn't be surprised.  I'm also sure inflation will hit both pretty hard.  With used car popularity going up I fully expect the need for parts going up as well.

I've done shocks and brakes on the daily and have the parts to do the truck, just down with covid so those will have to wait.  New tires on both as well.  My wife's car is pretty new so no real maintenance there yet.

I've got oil and filters for 4 oil changes on all of them.  Not because of potential shortages just because I stock up when Mobil 1 runs their rebates

I literally changed the oil in my truck today with the filter and oil I had in stock at my warehouse. Went to Walmart to replace them and grab an air filter and in cabin air filter. I got the last two air filters for my vehicle, and there were absolutely no oil filters for my Frontier, or an Altima in any brand whatsoever. There was absolutely no Mobil 1 synthetic either.

None for our cars.  Just used the last one for my wife's car, and I don't drive mine much at all.  I'm usually changing not because of mileage but age.

Stock up on oil or filters?

Do we need those special filter adapters too?

Should we buy solvent traps to filter our oil too?

A long-ass time.

I had a truck that took 7qts of oil, so it was cheaper to buy two Autozone oil change specials than to buy a special plus 2qts, and owned the truck 10 years.

Truck I have now uses the same filter, but only takes 5 qts of the same oil.

I'm probably good until 2025 at least at this point.

Shortages?  Not today mr import/export man

I just bought 4 for the f450 including fuel filters(this are expensive) and four for my wife’s Mercedes.

I’ve got oil but I need more so I’ll buy it tomorrow after church.  Thanks for costing me money again

I use 5W20 Motorcraft Synthetic Blend oil in my F150.

It’s hard to find now. Local parts store was out. Walmart only had two 5 quart jugs.

2 for everything except the one I'm currently daily driving.
That one I haven't bought a filter for since 2011, and I used the last one six months ago. Wowsers, those things (Delco 457G) are over $7 at Amazon, I paid about $3.50 for my previous case.

You can still get oil filters right now but air filters are out of stock for probably a third of our cars. We have like 800 parts on back order.

20k mile synthetic and proper filters are a thing.

Change it once a year if you stay under that.

None. I pay for others to change the oil in our vehicles.  If I had a lift, I’d probably do all the work on our stuff, but after a day of working on heavy equipment, I’ll be damned if I turn wrenches at home without a shop.

5-6 all together.
I buy oil filters by the case and Mobil1 at Costco every time it is on sale.
Having filter commonality between 5 of my vehicles is nice.

Could probably string together enough oil for yet another oil change with the oddball quarts I have.

Good reminder on tires though. I "re-tired" the two daily drivers right as Covid hit (both need them anyway). What I do need to do is get a fullsize spare for my daily. It is not an easy size and the spare I have for that truck is non matching (I have different size aftermarket wheels).
2 of the other vehicles here have a matching (same wheel/tire combo) spare.

So what the OP is talking about is a filter shortage. My suppliers are shipping 50% or less of any given order and this is happening with all the major manufactures. This is causing hell with my stock levels since I supply a state wide fleet of light, medium and heavy duty trucks and equipment.

Wix
Donaldson
Baldwin
Fram
Microguard
AC Delco

All of them. It's a media and metal shortage.

Then if you paid attention our local oil guru warned us last month that there was a temporary shortage of additives for engine oils due to a change over shut down. If I remember right there is only one domestic supplier of those chemicals.

So yeah expect problems with lubricants for the rest of the year and into next year for filters of not longer.

I'm in the installer market. Oil and air filters are becoming hard to find. Most are Chicom products.
Prices on lubricants are skyrocketing, also. (SOPUS 19.5% 0n 8/9 on all finished lubricants).
When an American senses shortages what do we do.
We hoard (see toilet paper and ammo). I'm an American who installs oil and filters.
I am buying inventory like there is no tomorrow as there is no tomorrow without inventory.
YMMV (pun)

Four.

Tires may be something to pay attention to, I'm looking at new ones for my truck and all the tire places are quoting me at least a week, some are just plain old back ordered.

Just bought a case of 12 Wix XP filters for the Honda Accord (Rock Auto). And got about a half dozen Baldwin filters for the F250. Wife is getting a some Super Tech (12qrt bx) bagged oil with the grocery come Monday.

OP is not wrong. Expect supply of automotive lubricants and such to get a bit tight in the near future, at the very least more expensive for what's available. A lot of compounding issues causing it but it is a real concern.
