I figure you for a Jet, since you're from NY and penguins have an innate fear of Sharks.

If you use a pocket knife as much as I do in a day, it'll break very soon

Love a good auto knife but the constant opening and closing will have you forever tightening backed out screws or simply regrinding expensive broken tips

Hogue? They make good knives. I probably would have chosen the Doug Ritter RSK but I bet the autos are nice too.

My original Gerber auto propel begs to differ,it lasted nearly two years without having to tighten anything before it just quit opening one day. I got a new one under warranty from Gerber

Until it jumps out of your hand from the spring action when you open it?
If you can get past that you'll be fine

My Chinese otf seem to hold up fine after a few years of carrying. I use every day. But there definitely are several grades for sure. Some of the 1st assisted opening screws would just backout. Got a number of traditional out the side. They are what I consider mid grade. They function decently.

Kind of where I am at. I have a couple switchblades/auto openers but everyday carry is a [USofA] Kershaw. Beat the hell out of it. I usually lose them before I break them. [I have two new one's stashed just in case that happens.]

Are you pairing it with the Taurus Commander?  Or the Armscor .38?

Hogue is solid.  I prefer protech, just because it seems a little more refined.  But I carry mostly ultratechs because old guys have limited dexterity.

However, fixed is the way to go, so amtac.

NYC has some sort of exception for tradesmen carring assisted opening knives. Same for people who work in theater IIRC.

My Texas electrical license kept me from catching a charge there in 2003 according to the friendly NYPD officer.
