i personally just hit six years of not taking a vacation.
what's the longest you've gone without any time off? and how did you survive? |
I took my kids to the beach for 3 days in August.....it was harder than work, and hot as fuck (the beach sucks).
Then this past weekend I took 3 days off to hunt....got punished for it by all hell breaking loose on Monday.....so I'm working this weekend like normal. |
I’m taking my first one of the year right now. I only work three days a week, so it’s more sick of crap quality loads than needing a break.
I did 10 years without taking more than 1 PTO days. I'd add a PTO day to 3 day weekends but I never took like 2 whole weeks off like you're supposed to to.
I took 2 whole weeks off last year but a Covid resurgence in WA totally wrecked my plans. |
Why would I not take vacations? Vacations rule.
I just got back from the PNW in July. Going to take some vacation to elk hunt in a couple weeks. Then there will be some vacation during ice season to go climb. Trying to figure out where to take two weeks next summer, too. |
I take one full week vacation and many 2-4 day trips per year.
A month ago we spent a week in Arizona. That was my first days off(other than weekends) since March. I’ll take another week at Christmas.
Since I started working I have never taken a vacation that I wanted to do. I leave work drive 12 hours in one of 3 directions and go work on Mom's house, or Dad's house, or granddad's truck.
So 25 years? |
I hate to say it, but it was 2005 +/- the last time I went somewhere for a vacation, and that was just a 3-day-weekend to VA Beach.
Last vacation I took was to Florida last year.
Going to Kentucky in about 2 months. |
I did 9 days six months ago. I have another 5 around Thanksgiving, and 9 at Christmas/New years. Then another 10 at the beginning of February. I also have another planned trip for August 2023 around 11 days, we'll see if it pans out though.

Not since I was a kid, living at home with my parents. About 45 years.

2016, Boston
Edit: I do take about 5-6 weeks off scattered through the year |
I work remote, so wherever/whenever. Got back from Baden Baden last week, going to CR next week. Couple emails in the morning. Zoom meeting with boss after that. Fuck off for a few hours. Check in with team. All good? Cool. Shoot email to boss "all good." Fuck off for the rest of the day.

2019.
I get unlimited time off at work now, and under the old system would have 5 weeks paid vacation per year at this point. Last year I didn't even use a week of it. There's just too much work to be able to take that time off. |

Quoted: Yeah, IMO in much of today's world, it kinda seems like when ya take time off, ya often end up paying for it exponentially when ya return. We had three great days for work and I used them for fun. Then first thing Monday it was pouring rain, I could have hunted in the rain, can't work though. Aside from that, I typically come back from time off fucking exhausted, it messes with my schedule. We did have a few good days of hunting, but it sucks when you feel like you shouldn't have done it. Unfortunately, work is my hobby now, just the way it is, can't have nice things or make your plans work without busting your ass for it. |
i usually take three weeks a year
i have one in december and were going to an indoor waterpark/hotel for a few days and i imagine ill be doing lots of shooting the other remaining days. |
An honest to goodness vacation? 7 or 8 years.
A family trip does not a vacation make. |
Like gone for a week plus and actually traveled somewhere? Sept 2019
I've had many a long weekend since but I wouldn't call those "vacations" |
Man some of you live pretty boring/sad/sheltered lives.
I don't think I've ever gone more than 6 months without going somewhere, even if it was only for a couple of nights. This year I've taken about 6 "vacations" ranging from three days to 10 days. |
Was in Cuba for a week in April and going to Galapagos Islands Dec. 18th to 28th. Looking forward to that trip.

Grew up on a dairy farm. Days off and vacation wasn’t a thing for us.
Now I love that shit and enjoy every minute of it and take at least a week every year. My grandma built their Grade A barn and started milking in 81. She took one evening milking off to see my aunt graduated from cosmetology school in 85. She didn’t take another day off until around 96 I think it was when she was diagnosed with cancer and got to sick to work. Beat cancer a few months later and was back in the barn day and night until the early 2000s when they finally retired. They went on a couple vacations then. |
