when the government never owned it in the first place......shouldn't be called forcible confiscation with minimal monetary restitution?    How does "eminent domain" pertain to firearm ownership?

"Mandatory buyback" is the political term for confiscation.

Mandatory buy back of assault weapons...the only accurate word in that sentence is "mandatory"

Well, duh-h

Because "buyback" sounds better and is more palatable to the dimwitted masses.

"Forcibly seizing people's private property" doesn't roll off the tongue as easily.

a lot of people have no idea where guns come from.

a few people have journalism degrees.

a venn diagram of those two overlapping would explain it.

I guess the loons figure they owned your money first and decided to give some of it back to you so you could buy things.

They can't afford to confiscate all of them either.

Mind blown!!!

You know its not usually the government providing the "buy back" funds, right?  Its usually a private group like a church. "Buy backs" do not trigger me. If someone is dumb enough to surrender a firearm for below market value it doesn't harm me. If someone is smart enough to exchange cheap firearms for a gift card that exceeds the replacement costs of those firearms, great.

I only own one firearm the government could claim as a "buy back":  An M1 Garand I bought through the CMP.
However, it could also be argued that the taxpayers owned it originally, not the government.

True Words spoken.

However, the Liberal Media is never going to actually say the "C-word" and call it CONFISCATION.

In the same Orwellian twist of language into "New Speak"

'Illegal Alien' became "Undocumented Immigrant" and now just "Immigrant" (so if you oppose illegal aliens breaking the law crossing into our Sovereign country - you must be a racists hate all "Immigrants")

'Bad Weather' or 'Storm' is "Climate Change"...  If it rains too much or too little or it doesn't snow or snows too much or if a tornado or hurricane or cyclone ever happen - it must all be due to "Climate Change" and the evil Republicans who don't support Al Gore & AOC in their "the green new deal"

Why doesn't the Media CALL the "Buyback liars" out on these bald-faced lies???

Because the Media is already part of "The Program"...

The Democrats and their Puppets in our Media will never use the "C-word" CONFISCATION...

It is of the level of the Nazis saying the Jews were merely "Being Relocated East"...

They can if they tax you and then give you some of your own money back.

Who says that they are going to pay you for them?  More likely that they force you to turn them in with no compensation, and no ability to claim the loss on your tax returns to spite their enemies.

Ah heck they may even charge the gun owner a tax for disposal!

Clause 3: Bills of Attainder and Ex Post Facto Laws

"Clause 3: No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed."

Explanation:  A bill of attainder is a way that a legislature acts as a judge and jury, declaring that a person or group of people are guilty of a crime and stating the punishment. An ex post facto law criminalizes acts retroactively, allowing people to be prosecuted for acts that weren't illegal at the time they did them.
