Google the "Betty and Barney Hill," alien encounter. One of the most believable alien encounters for various reasons. Given our level of what we've done and where we've been in space any aliens that have visited our planet would have to be way more advanced than we are.

The vast majority of life out there I expect to be unicellular prokaryotes.
Bacteria arose on earth almost immediately after conditions were conducive. It took another 2 billion years for single cell eukaryotes to evolve. A LOT of bumps in the road before you get to multi-cellular life with big brains. |

Odds are they are sentient mechanisms that don’t age but just replace worn parts. This beats the time/distance issues associated with interstellar travel. In fact. The Tic Tacs don’t carry aliens.
