These are genuine batteries in the OEM blister packs.

For example...Makita BL1850B-2 (5.0ah 2-pack)

eBay...tons of sellers selling for $100 shipped.

Amazon... usually $159, right now $149 on sale, lowest price ever according to Camelcamelcamel $135.

Home Depot...$159

What gives?

One ebay seller I bought a lot of items from would purchase inventory from stores that were closing and resell for profit.

I got a couple 18v DeWalt hammer drills for $200 shipped each around 2001.

This. Home Depot sells their returns that can't be returned to the manufacture for credit. EBay seller buys a pallet of Milwaukee returns. Some is junk, some is used but functional, some is brand new.

$138 on homedepot.com and $110 at a few amazon third party sellers, so the ebay price isn't that much cheaper.

Ebay has a lot of sellers that operate on razor thin margins, people buying liquidations and factory overruns for pennies on the dollars, and some businesses blow out stuff at or below cost to move a bunch of product or make their sales numbers look better.

I think HD bought a boatload or two of those for holiday sales and have a bunch leftover as prices kept getting lower after the Black Friday that had that buy the battery set and get a free tool deal.  I know they were cheaper by cyber monday as I bought a set.

You are doing it wrong...

Go to Home Depot. They have a buy a makita battery starter kit for $199 and get a free tool on the front wall of the store. Pick the 2 makita 5.0 batteries as your free tool. Then go and checkout. Take the two 5.0 batteries to your car. Walk back in the store with the starter kit and return it. You will get back money and end up paying 95 ish for 2 5.0 batteries.

They steal them from Home Depot/Lowe's/etc.  Power tool batteries were always a hot target in my LP days.

So much "new" shit on ebay and craigslist is simply stolen.

Home Depot was selling a Ryobi two battery pack with charger in a bag for $149 and gave away a "free" tool valued at up to $119, then all of a sudden after Christmas they dropped it to $99 oh, do you think there's a little extra profit margin built into those?
So it's pretty obvious that somebody on eBay can sell just the two batteries for less than $49 a piece and still make a profit without having to pay for all that land, Building, and employees. Especially if they're not giving away "free" tools and a bag and a charger.
When Home Depot isn't having a special they charge quite a bit more than that just for the batteries. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody is going in and buying the package for $99 and selling the "free"  tool separately.

HD ends up eating that cost too.

I’m cheap, so I look everywhere, and I’ve seen identical items from the same sellers listed cheaper on eBay than on Amazon.
