These are genuine batteries in the OEM blister packs.
For example...Makita BL1850B-2 (5.0ah 2-pack) eBay...tons of sellers selling for $100 shipped. Amazon... usually $159, right now $149 on sale, lowest price ever according to Camelcamelcamel $135. Home Depot...$159 What gives? |
Volume, low overhead, some fakes mixed in as well.
ETA: I actually bought some Milwaukee batteries today on ebay. |
They probably buy them in bulk from a liquidation company like Bulk.com and resell.
A lot of these people are buying up returns for pennies on the dollar, and selling you them.
You can buy pallet loads of returns from amazon... its become popular. |
Probably rebuilt returns. There's a bunch of 18650 cells in them. Open em up and replace the bad cells for a couple bucks.

Some are legit. I think

One ebay seller I bought a lot of items from would purchase inventory from stores that were closing and resell for profit.
I got a couple 18v DeWalt hammer drills for $200 shipped each around 2001. |
ya they picture them in the package and you get loose batteries
fake/remaned |

Where do you think all the shitheads stealing from Home Despot and Lowes are getting rid of their stolen shit?
Those ebay accounts are most likely run by a "fence". Cordless batteries are one of the top stolen items at HD/Lowes.
Small, easy to sell, and expensive.....The trifecta for a shoplifter |

Lot of resellers buy combo sets on sale and part them out on Ebay.
This is one of those times when you're not supposed to ask questions.
I dunno. I just picked up two new batteries and a fast charger from Homey Depot for a c-note. On top of that they threw in a 3/8" drive impact. If they still have some more batteries next week... They have a portable bandsaw now.
I buy my gravely mower spindles from eBay. Same exact ones I can get from dealer at less than half the price. Same bearing numbers, housing cast marks, etc
$138 on homedepot.com and $110 at a few amazon third party sellers, so the ebay price isn't that much cheaper.
Ebay has a lot of sellers that operate on razor thin margins, people buying liquidations and factory overruns for pennies on the dollars, and some businesses blow out stuff at or below cost to move a bunch of product or make their sales numbers look better. |

They have a buy a makita battery starter kit for $199 and get a free tool on the front wall of the store. Pick the 2 makita 5.0 batteries as your free tool. Then go and checkout. Take the two 5.0 batteries to your car. Walk back in the store with the starter kit and return it. You will get back money and end up paying 95 ish for 2 5.0 batteries. |

They steal them from Home Depot/Lowe's/etc. Power tool batteries were always a hot target in my LP days.
So much "new" shit on ebay and craigslist is simply stolen. |
Also don't forget the guys who get a HD credit card, max it out, then take the stuff right over to the pawn shop to get a few dollars for drug money.
HD ends up eating that cost too. |
It seems everything I’m shopping for is more expensive on Amazon.
I’m cheap, so I look everywhere, and I’ve seen identical items from the same sellers listed cheaper on eBay than on Amazon. |
