Green Bay has four lodges, Chapter, Council, Commandry, Scottish Rite, Job's Daughters, Demolay, a Masonic library and museum:  all in one large building.  The building has a good sized lodge room, an auditorium that will hold 400, commercial grade kitchen and nice dining room.  But, it's 38 years old and it wasn't built well to begin with.  It was becoming a money pit.  We just don't have the numbers to keep up with it.  So, we got a couple of appraisals and talked to a couple of realtors.  We hadn't listed it.

From out of nowhere we were approached by a local youth ministry.  They offered over double what we were told we could get.  All cash.  The catch?  We had 60 days to get out.  11 organizations with two months.  It's been elbows and assholes for two months, while dark.  Everything's in storage units.

It's pretty much a nightmare.  One lodge categorically refuses to play well with the others.
We're meeting at Shrine's building.  It's not a viable longterm solution.

Before you even think about selling your building, have a solid exit plan that everyone buys into.

Why didn't you just rent your building to the youth ministry?

We'd still have to keep up the maintenance and they wanted it all and complete control.  I imagine every Masonic reference will be gone in a week.

Our lodge went through something similar, but we only had the lodge and Eastern Star in the building.  Our old building was in severe need of repair and it was not economically viable to make the repairs.  We met at another lodge building and paid rent until we were finally able to secure a new building.  It was a true test of our obligations at times, but our lodge and the members are better for it.  I hope you find a new building soon and that brotherly love and peace prevail.
