Made in US preferred. Other countries would be acceptable, just not China.

Don't know the brand but I have one with a seatbelt type buckle.
Turns out that buckle makes it very easy to use the bag. |

I really like my Hazard 4 Messenger bag (https://smile.amazon.com/HAZARD-Defense-Courier-Laptop-Messenger/dp/B005ENZI9Q) - huge, roomy on the inside, deep padded pocket for a laptop, tons of external stuff, MOLLE everywhere, pockets everywhere, velcro, good strap...the works. I got it in 2016 and wore it daily up until Covid made working from home a thing. No problems with it whatsoever.
They make a big deal about being designed in USA, but don't mention where it's made. It's really well constructed but...I dunno where from. Philippines? China? I can't find a label on the inside stating where, anywhere Just that it was "Designed in USA". I also have one of their "Kato" bags, which is good for a smaller (Ipad-sized) tablet...but you start stepping up to Microsoft Surface or larger tablets and it's a no-go. Again - really well constructed...just don't know where. |

The green padded version of this has been my briefcase of choice for almost 25 years. It’s travelled all over the US with me, often in the back of my truck. I wouldn’t say it looks like new, but it looks much newer than 25. If OP wants something bigger and heavier than a messenger bag, this is what he should get. |

Timbuk2 custom-made bags are made in USA (well San Francisco). The stock bags are made overseas.

You have to be the right guy, in the right location, wearing the right clothes to carry something like that.
I don't check any of those boxes. |

I've owned a number of messenger bags over the years and used and sold a number of them. The ones I kept are from R.E.Load Bags. They are handmade in Philly and are built to last. My RELoad bags are going on 15-20 years old now and still work great and keep the contents dry even riding through a downpour. |

I don’t carry it anymore, but a Timbuk2 messenger bag was my daily carry for 3-4 years. Even when retiring it it was still in good shape for getting beat up for that long. I switched to backpack to help my back.

L.L. Bean ?
I've got this pretty large (like fit 6 2 liters in) LL Bean bag that's built like a tank. No idea if they still make them. |

The made in India full grain water buffalo leather bags are surprisingly good and even more surprisingly cheap. I bought a duffle bag recently. I've not used it yet, but first impression is good. Don't forget to use their 15% code.

I bought a used Timbuktu for $25 a few years ago off Craigslist. It's solid* but a little small for me so I bought this. Very lightweight, nice wide strap, I want to get another for a day hike bag. I think it's made in Poland.
