lol, need point A to point B car. Looking for reliability first.

Budget $5-6000 , miles under 60K.

I'm finding the following;

1 Buick Lucerne

2 Ford Taurus

3 Chevy impala

4 Ford Escorts

5 Cadillac DTS

6 Chrysler Sebring

7 Ford Fusion

Which would you pick?

hell, the only "old man" car I see on your list is the Impala... but it's gotta be a '66 SS. or maybe a 64 SS convertible.

Look for a Camry.

Out of those.. I'd go the Impala or the Fusion. My experience with both of those models have been positive if you don't abuse them and you perform the proper maintenance.

Price point vs mileage doesn't fit.

I didn't find a single result for any car under $6k with under 60k miles within 200 miles of my zip.  In case if you find a say a 2012 Camry with 150k miles and a 2004 whatever with 60k miles for the same price, the Camry is probably going to last longer.  Age and engine hours are better reliability indicators than mileage is.

Not on the list but a ford crown vic/mercury marquis/Lincoln town car fits  your criteria.

1 and 5 are the same chassis. Full-size FWD GM with all the goods and bads that entails. Aging out quickly though with newest version of either being 10 years old now.

2 - I don’t have much experience with the full-size Taurus, but an SHO seems like it’d be a fun time.

3 - impala is always a safe choice. Common, cheap parts

4 - Ford escorts? Do these even exist anymore? Do you mean a Ford Focus?

6 - same thing, I can’t even recall the last Sebring I’ve even seen and stuff typically doesn’t die of rust down here.

7 - fusion seems like a reasonable mid size offering

Budget seems low for any good examples of any of these though.

Maybe one of those old Chrysler K-cars. A wagon with fake wood sides. And get yourself a pork-pie hat. Light blue.

4.6L 16V SOHC Modular V8 is basically bulletproof, and easy to wrench when needed.

If you look hard it can be found. They are boring to drive but rock solid reliability.

My back up work car is a 2.4L 03 Camry with 63k miles for $6000. It is nice and quite like a new car.

Current work car is a 2002 2.4L Camry purchased for $2,000 with 177K miles. It now has 306K

Starter, alternator, struts, and wheel bearings is all that has been replaced that i would consider non wear items.

There are a few years to avoid in the 07-09 range due to oil consumption issues.

Mercury Marauder if you want Grandpa's hot rod.

Lol out here there are no sedans with 60,000 miles for 5000 to 6000. You might find a savlage title that fit your parameters but it's not going to be on your list. But if you find 2 with clean titles let me know I'll drive one back to AZ.

My Mother drove a Lucerne with the Northstar V8. At about 90K the catalytic converter went out in it. The dealer replaced them, then replaced them again 6 months later. A year later the check engine light came on and the car was replaced with a Mercedes ML 350 Blutec.

Lincoln Town Car, Toyota Avalon , Camry or an Accord . Also look at Lexus LS series cars. Nothing on that list screams reliable and the Chrysler is the opposite

2 Ford Taurus or even better a Mercury Sable. With the DOHC engine. Almost all the Mercury Sables have one.

Run Forever and cheap parts. Good in Snow and bad weather.

Doesn't matter, you'll spend more in maintenance/repairs the first year than buying a toyota in the first place.

It's your money, can't wait for your "my car took a shit and it's going to be expensive to fix" thread.

My family has had three Taurus's and One Mercury same model. Total shit. All had Power steering trouble, AC problems, Blower motors out. One had major trans problems. Struts are a pain to install on the front. Thats just the start.
I would take the Impala over the Taurus. Rides like a caddy. Ran even with trans problems. AC and heat until I junked it and donated it.

Go to carcomplaints.com look up the various years for issues.

I got an old man car last year - my in-laws 2000 Buick LeSabre with 73,763 miles. It had been basically dormant for a few years so some repairs were necessary but that GM3800 engine is solid.

I describe the driving experience as piloting a waterbed down the highway.
