I’m so old, the last time I was on a horse it was with six other horses tied to a big pivot. A carousel with live horses.

Raised on a dairy farm. I had 2 horses that got ridden regularly. Either for rounding up stray cows at milking time. Or a bunch of us rode the back roads on the weekends.

I miss riding horses and bucky bulls.
Motos and snowmobiles are waaaaay easier to care for and feed. |

Yep. Hate em.
A thousand pounds of nervous muscle controlled by a fucking pea brain scared of everything and prone to unpredictability. Seems like the perfect thing to trust your ability to walk to. |

Since I was 7 or 8 in the 60's and just a few years ago. One of my sisters had a quarter horse named Dolly that loved to run. Since we were kids and weighed under 100pds was no effort for her. I think she liked to show off how fast she could go. After I turned 16 had an old 57 Chev that I parked in the pasture. Would fire it up and chase an appaloosa named Buck my other sister had at the time. Buck would kick up his heels and run circles while I did dounuts behind him. He loved it. Every time he saw me out by the fence would trot over to the car and wait for me to start it up. Horses have a smell to them that never leaves you. Just like the smell a paper hulled just fired shotgun shell has never leaves you. And the smell of a Coleman lantern. And the smell of Hoppes #9. And.....well, I digress. Time for bed.

Several times. On the whole, I like motorcycles better. At least, when you fall off a motorcycle, it doesn’t try to bite you.

Rode horses, cared for horses daily, had my foot stepped on by a horse, was cornered and bit hard by a horse, been chased by a horse that wanted my french fries.
Loved horses and had to say goodbye to old horses |

Yeah real ones that try and throw you off, bareback and saddle bronc. Real ones roping steers for fun and work. Grew up working a cattle/horse farm of some friends.

As a cavalryman it would be shameful if I didn’t. Horseback hunting is best hunting.

Fuck ya. Took lessons through the Post rec. office when my dad was stationed at Ft. Riley. Real riding lessons, many hours, many months. Galloped a few times. . I can see why people like them. I think they smell nice. Haven't been on a horse in 45 years.

As a teen, before I moved to the country.
Now I see them every day but don't ever ride any. |

Yep, logged a few seat time hours. Moving through the usdf medals, do some training, yearling starting, all that nonsense. Like the warmbloods way better than the little western stock I learned on. Real fun starts at 17h

My extended raised horses. I could walk over and saddle up and ride whenever I wanted. It has been a long time though since I've been on a horse.

Yes, never again, terrible experience. When the horse gallops, there was literally nothing I could do to save massive ball pain. My balls don't like riding horseback.

Raised up riding them. Had my own from about 8 years old.
Used to contest every summer. Poles, barrels rescue race, dash for cash, shovel race. Jumped for 8 horses in a rescue race class one year. Hit 'em all and wound up with 2nd and 4th places. |

Had to ride one to school and back for a while. Sucked. His name was Prince...he was some kind of mutt horse and a complete asshole.

yup, married a girl who loves horses and riding. Yeah, that's a 'crazy' red flag but I'll take it. Not too easy to find a pretty girl who hates cities/crowds, likes guns, is conservative, and values family.

Rode a horse for the first time at 6 YO. A friend of my dad's had a ranch with many horses in Montana and picked one that would be easy to ride.

Before I was born and as recently as last summer.
I spent most of my childhood riding horses at least weekly, and up to daily. I need to ride more, it just seems like I don't have time anymore. My horse died a few years ago, so all I have now is a poorly trained Quarter Pony, and a (rather large for the breed) Arabian. I don't have a comfortable saddle right now either. The one that fits the Pony makes my hips feel like they are going to break (it's way too small for my ass), and the Arabian is too dang tall to get on without a ladder... Speaking of which I need to get some boots before I do more riding. It's terrifying (and very unsafe) to ride in tennis shoes. That's the best way I can think of to get dragged/killed on a horse. |

I worked for 9 months at a stable where we rented horses to wannabe cowboys we saddled up about 55-60 horses a day and a few ponies. I have all the horses you could want. I used to ride on my days off.

Spent a lot of time on my uncles ranch. All of the family kids, as it was a cheap source of labor. They had 1500 head of beef cattle, 75 head of dairy cows and 35 head of horses, along with everything else that goes with a ranch. If we were not haying then we were on horses. Good time, even though it was hard work!!!!

The horse was not impressed. |
