Seems that scientists make educated guesses all the time. Has anyone ever figured it out? If not the Universe how about just our galaxy?

Every time I see the "There is no planet B" bumper stickers I think maybe Earth was the planet B for an advanced civilization and space travel makes you regress to a cave man and then evolution has to start all over.

I have an active imagination

most civilizations would struggle to get past the nuclear problem and the carbon problem.

The universe is full of tomb worlds :)

No doubt the the universe was created to host life. Of The trillions of stars have no doubt some saw the rise and fall of infinite civilizations. And many many more yet to come.

What data exists to make the guess an “educated” guess?

Recent thread on here was about this same thing, the universe is likely riddled with dead civilizations. Intelligent life (that turned into Democratic Societies) tend to kill themselves off and such.

100 billion stars in just the Milky Way Galaxy.

“Intelligent” life exists here. 100% confirmed.

Even if we somehow happen to be 1 in 100,000,000,000, how many more galaxies are there? How many more stars in those? My opinion is there is not a single chance we are the only ones.

I know the exact number: 0.  We are the first and only and there's not a single scrap of evidence to the contrary.  The Drake Equation is an imaginary construct.  There is no proof it even comes close to the truth.  It's called an "equation" because it doesn't even rate the moniker "theory", much less a "law".

My issue is that it’s unknown, and people are even attempting quantification. 1 in 100 billion? Maybe. 1 in 5? Maybe. The absence of data is so overwhelming, that there could be civilizations that lived and died on every damn planet in our solar system and half the moons and we wouldn’t know it.

Aaaand... 6,000  years M I rite???

Yes... I'm sure that out of the number of stars in our observable universe, we're all alone. Because a loving, omnipotent God would piss around with all of that was
ted space and creation. Like I'd pull out an extra-large pizza pan to eat my scrambled eggs from.x

As stated, the number is zero, with the knowledge we have at the moment.

It would be odd to find beings that resemble us. We are bipods on a planet with most lifeforms having 6 or more appendages

Agree.  And 100 billion stars in the milky way is on the low end of estimates.  There could be as many as 400 to 700 billion in our galaxy alone.

Yeah I kinda figure non-Earthly beings are in a physical form we may not understand. Just because our atmosphere made everything here look like this, other planets are completely different

How do you define " advanced civilizations " .

If we only count advanced then what about the " advanced challenged " civilizations . Would stone age be advanced ?

Or pre - stone age .

Is advanced the ability to travel to other planets .  Or leave their galaxy .

Just asking .

The exact number we know of.  If we discover one, then that number changes. Until then, that’s the most accurate number we have.
