Haha. One of my favorite videos is Michael Shanks describing to the audience and Ben Browder why he wouldn't carry a zat. "It's a penis, OK?"

First of all Thank you for the Sub Forum GoatBoy.

So I have to ask a standard Sci Fi question.

What handheld weapon would you choose from any Sci Fi movie? I.e. Lightsaber, Blaster,  Phaser, etc.

Can we expand it to books too?    I'd take one of the guns from the weapon shops.  Short of that, a light saber would have a lot of uses beyond just a weapon.

Never understood how they keep track of how many times a person has been shot.  Imagine stunning someone with one, forget you shot that person with a specific zat, then several years later try to stun them again?  Would you kill them?

Not a movie, just awesome early SF/Space Opera book series that would have made an awe inspiring movie series.

A Galactic Patrol Delameter from the Lensman series.

How about an mg42 on a steady cam gimbal, like the colonial marines had in aliens.

Or Hicks Ithaca M37 stakeout.

Movie I'd take a lightsaber.  Expand it to science fiction in general and I want one of the guns from the weapon shops.

Can burst a politician's skull from over a kilometer away.

But the pistol just isn't reliable.

From Drake's Daniel Leary series I like Adele Mundy's 20 shot pocket pistol. Tiny pellet accelerated to meteoric velocity.

She shot a woman in the throat and the temporary cavity stretched wider than her head. In one action she killed 40 people with it.

Adele was a straight up Killer. Eclipsed only by Tovera.

One thing that's so good about David Drake is that his weapons burn your hands, overheat, malfunction, or trade effect for Elephant rifle recoil.

Explosions kill with blast effect. Combat smells like a burning charnel house.

I always thought Blade Runner pistols were cool... Sandman Pistols too...

Original BSG Cololonial pistols looked like too much of a toy to me... Centurions rifles looked cool, but awkward... had a bayonet though... i always wanted to see one used...

I dug them too.  Truly one of the more visceral renditions of scifi weaponry.  Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.

MA41A Pulse Rifle is also a winner.

But I'd take the Predator shoulder-mounted gun.

Well, yeah...up until the first time you pull it out to open a box or something, and then remember you gotta cut somebody before you put it away.

And a shoulder cannon is only good until somebody--or something!--you're hunting surprises you at your 9:00.
