So a friend of mine, a former coworker, was a Fire Captain with the City of Greensboro and had been there 16 years. He posted the meme below and the City terminated his employment last week.

Not in uniform, not speaking for his agency, he might have something to appeal. What do the sop-s say? An attorney that specializes in this area would be the first person I contacted.

First Amendment retaliation.
Not to mention blatant discrimination against his sexual orientation. I'd be tempted to sue the (insert GD appropriate language here) even if they do hire him back upon appeal. I wouldn't sue the city, I'd sue the (***) who did it. |

And this is why I’m glad I’m in a state with good union protections.
Our city tried to put in a policy that said more or less that you could be fired for saying anything they disagree with online on or off duty. The union told them to fuck off and the policy was quickly clarified as to “while representing oneself” as a city employee. |
