It's played with the I V VI IV (first, fifth, sixth, then fourth chord in the musical key ) progression, it's in thousands of songs. Sometimes writers re organize those four chords so the minor ( Vi) is first etc. but it's all the same.

There are several pre-programmed synth layers going on in that song, and yeah it's definitely 'influenced' at least by the Psychedelic Furs. Looks like the keyboardist stuffed an M-Audio Axiom computer synth controller into an old-timey roll-top desk for 'authenticity'. That is literally an old desk top with some Ikea legs added to hold a software controller. The keyboard controller doesn't even have its own sounds, has to be hooked up to a computer.
