What do you have? What would you get and why?

I like my electonic. Can get in waaay quicker than a dial. I just religiously change the battery out yearly to avoid a dead batteryin the event I needed to access it quickly.

Have both. Both work. The digital is stupid easy. Still like the dial.

Digital with a separate access key in case the keypad goes tits up. I have two digital, one dial.
|
|
[#11]
Get a dial and if you need quick access get something for that separate but you don't need quick access to 28 guns and the quick access stuff is even faster key fobs etc.

[#14]
digital cause I'm cheap
I'd prefer mechanical combo lock just because I like mechanical things |
|
[#15]
Dial safe. Before all the current madness, I had a digital safe die on me. It ended up being something electronic inside the keypad. It took over a week for my locksmith to get another keypad to open it. I immediately had him change it over to a dial. Can you imagine how long it would take to get a part now?

My digi lock was designed by the safe company, and they claimes 1 million openings without fail.
My 16yo cheap ass sentry fire safe digi lock is still going on. |

Mine is mechanical dial.
I have spent my entire career in electronics and know that I don't want an electronic lock on my gun safe... And my weapons that require quick access are not in the safe whether it's a mechanical or electronic lock. |
|
[#19]
I like the e locks. The salesman at the one place we shopped took forever to open the dial safe. If he can't get it done in a decent amount of time then I would be fuct trying to open it under pressure.
|
|
[#20]
Dial. If you don't spin it like a top, it should last a long long time.
I do have a one gun safe with a electronic lock for bump in the night shit. |

[#22]
Securam. Get both in one.

I work ATMs and safes I have come to like the laGuard basic II electronic lock with the turning face/keypad. It is unlocked and allow you to turn the face pulling the bolt in.
No motor to fail Never had one fail requiring safe to be drilled |
|
[#27]
It cost $500 to have a locksmith drill a Liberty safe when the electronic lock failed. I had it replaced with a dial...
|
|
[#28]
I don’t rely on anything that needs external power to function properly for security of something like a gun safe.
Unless you’re going EXTREMELY high end for specifically the locking mechanism itself, the electronic locks used in gun safes are actually quite low quality as a cost saving measure |
|
[#30]
I'm on my 3rd RSC, ( upgrading size each time) first was dial, last 2 are electric. I've not have any issues with either. if cost was no issue I might go dial.
|
|
[#31]
Combo. How many threads have you seen of someone not being able to get into their electronic lock safe? That's mainly all I see posted.
|
|
[#33]
Dial.
No dead batteries. No electrical bullshit to keep you out, no worn out keypads to replace. When your keypad fails in thirty years, where will you get that part? |
|
[#36]
I have both.
Electronic is way faster and you can see it in the dark . |

View Quote I had a brand new Liberty digital lock shit the bed last year during Covid. It took over a month to get it sorted out. The replacement keypad didn’t work, so they had to find a locksmith that wasn’t afraid of their shadow (Covid lockdowns) to come out and replace the lock. It’s now a combination lock. I will never have another digital lock on anything important. |

[#40]
Do not get a digital lock.
Do get your dial lock serviced every ten years or so. |
|
[#41]
Combination lock. Takes about 10 seconds to dial it open. most of the time I'll dial the first two numbers and then only have a couple seconds to get in by dialing the last number.
|
|
[#42]
In 20 plus years I've never needed to get into safe in a hurry.
I think a combo would be nice if available. |

[#47]
Why don't you have enough guns so you can get both?
Get a quality dial lock so it has a key and you can lock the dial for convenience when you'll be in and out a lot. Kharn |

Many safe manufacturers offer dual locking mechanisms now... Just make sure you practice on the dial so you know you can do it if absolutely needed. We have dual locks as well |
