it's $1,000 a month for my wife and i at the grocery store. we eat as many "whole foods" as possible (you know less processed that we have to actually cook ourselves). i half heartedly joked last time that the next time it's just gonna be chips, soda, and snack cakes. we never buy that shit but it sure seems cheaper to do so. my wife made homemade crab rangoon awhile back they were like $2 each, we could have bought a box of frozen premades for like fifty cents each (like $5 a box instead of $20 for the real shit). the sad thing is the mystery meat special lab chemical version probably taste close to the real ones? i need to do a 21 and me test, i have to qualify for some sort of free shit?

on a side note if you want the best crispy fried thing in the world fry a single wonton wrapper that you would use to make crab rangoon. youre welcome. thats how a guy like me eats every vegetable known to man every meal and is still a fat ass.

we started that for the new years resolution. we dont owe anything in the world, but i have become very conscience of the money we were just burning just to be burning. we cut out most "streaming services", 99% of wasteful spending has come to a halt, it sucks sometimes but when you look at the bottom line its like are we rich now?

we have found about an extra $4k a month just "laying around" by not spending $5 here and there 87 times a day. its amazing when you put pen to paper and see just how much that glass of sweet tea, or coffee from the drive thru really costs every month.

Commissary meat for the win. Some of it is sketch but if you have access they lower prices on many items.

Anyone with a real family (children) that eats somewhat healthy won't be scoffing grocery prices though. We still probably spend close to $1200 a month. Real food not Kraft Mac n cheese. Anyone with food allergies and heath problems in their family will realize that Spam, Little Debbie, and Ramen is not food.

It's amazing how much some of you are still hung up on partisan politics.

To keep food quality high and cost down I've been making more meals from scratch. Instead of spending 50 dollars for pizza I make the dough and buy the toppings cheap. Instead of frozen French fries I buy ten pound bags of russet potatoes and make potato wedges. We go out to eat maybe twice a month now and I only usually get lunch out once a week when Publix has their sushi sale.

It's amazing how cheap good meals can be if you make them yourself.

I am amazed at the people who buy coffee at Dunkin or Starbucks and eat out who whine about groceries. A cheap meal at a family restaurant for five with no dessert or drinks is $75-$100.  Breakfast maybe $50.  We rarely eat out anywhere.

Healthy food does cost more but less processed things like oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes, frozen veggies, etc save a lot too.  And it is hopefully establishing good habits for my kids who have never even seen DoorDash.

Inflation still sucks with Trump as President. It sucked with Biden too. The spending is out of control. Tell me that is a partisan statement because our national debt is a national security issue regardless of the sitting President.

Did you vote for $20 burger flippers? The price of fuel, fertilizer and other oil related inputs are only part of the problem. Unnecessary regulations and climate change have been a large factor in inflation. Biden’s open border policy is also a large factor. Politicians who don’t care about taxpayers are another example. Can you imagine a Chicago public school where teachers and staff outnumber students. This is not a special Ed school. It is a normal high school where enrollment is way down. Chicago taxpayers are spending over $55,000 per student per year. Taxpayers are being asked for more money. Stores pay property tax, energy taxes, water bills and even plastic bag taxes. Are groceries more expensive in Chicago? I can tell tell you they are at least 20% higher than at my local H‑E‑B.

You're right. It probably is more than 1 weeks groceries & I should have been clear about that but the point was the amount of food purchased from a higher priced store a few years ago compare to a value minded retailer recently was a 100% increase. It was never my intent to place blame for the increase on anything political even if the cause can be put there. It was a pure observation & here we are in typical GD fashion placing blame in all the right places.

Perhaps my thread title was a bit dramatic but as others have said, we would mainly make smaller purchases. We had not shopped to this degree in quite awhile. We also have purchase data from shopping on line & while most prices have not seen a 100% increase, a lot of what we consume has gone up that much.
I will continue to vote for conservative candidates in every election knowing it won't change shit.
There is nobody on this board that hates the .gov more than I do. Fight me.

I doubt most people here use club cards or shops with the weekly circular, instead buying the same stuff every week, even if it gets expensive.

My friend constantly bitches about grocery prices but buys the same stuff, isn't a member anywhere, has no clue about coupons, or even looks at what's on sale.  Just mindlessly buys the same stuff over and over.  Won't even consider store brands.

I imagine many, many here are just like that.

Well, let’s see:

GD thinks apps are evil or simply refuse to use them. Grocery apps collect your data.

If you’re single, the cost of a membership can be questionable. I’d have to go 25 min out of my way to even get to a Costco for their cheaper gas. Small space with little storage space? It’s simply not worth it.

But inflation was high in the late 70s and early 80s!

“I’ve seen this all before”

But pops, the debt to GDP ratio was around 35%, it’s at 124% today….

Would Paul Volcker have been able to work that Federal Reserve magic with today’s debt to GDP ratio?

Come on Kevin Warsh hike those rates to 20% like Volcker did!

Why not, I have been told by my wise elders they have “seen this all before”?

What's worse is the quality of food you get, and the premiums to get food with high nutritional value.

People will buy Costco tubes of beef and their disgusting fake rotisserie chickens thinking they're saving $. In reality you're just eating garbage to save $. Counter productive.

Minimize your menu with high nutrition. Pasture raised eggs, organic ground beef, wild caught fish, etc. It helps to know the source of your meats. We have a local farm that supplies a small grocery store with beef, and they also sell wild caught fish caught right from the Great Lakes.

Agree with this, buy better quality of foods and your grocery bill is shockingly painful. People that have a legitimate gripe about tariffs, inflation, energy and food costs aren’t all communists anti-maga types.

In fact, these factors are going to shift the political landscape whether we like it or not. As Clinton said, it’s the economy stupid.

This isn’t party specific.  Neither party gives a shit about costs for the average American.

Democrats push snap which increases food costs for everyone with inflated demand but overall government spending is finally hitting the average American hard.  This isn’t going to get any better regardless of who we elect.

Democrats are openly socialist or communist now and republicans lie about being conservatives.

Yeah, politics have little to do with this but it is multi-faceted. When 90% of the food comes from 5-6 companies, real farms are pushed out, weird fake proteins are pushed and 90% of the food on shelves isn't food, it's a bad recipe.

Organic labels are a joke. If you want truly organic your going to have to grow things yourself. The cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans watermelon, honeydew, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries and nectarines at my place are organic as in nothing is sprayed on any of them. I keep my cherry trees pruned to 8 feet tall and cover with a zippered mess bag to keep western cherry fly off of them.

I vermicompost and use that as my fertilizer in my no till garden. Garden area is 20x30 and It keeps 4 houses in produce most of the summer. We can a few things and freeze a bunch as well. The neighbors kids really enjoy frozen cherries, we pit them before freezing and have like 10, 1 gallon bags in the deep freeze. I know not everyone can do this and I am glad we can do it.

We took some tomatoes and cucumbers to the grocery store and gave them to a lady we check out with every Friday.  We compared our produce to the stores, ours was better looking. Their heirloom tomato was priced at 5.99 a pound and the 2 tomatoes we gave her weighed 3 pounds. My biggest heirloom this year weighed 1 pound 13 ounces.

That's about what my wife and I likely spend a month, and that's with the occasional $25 a pound salmon splurge. And that $600 includes paper products, cleaning supplies, hygiene and personal care items, etc.

Used to be under $100 a week.

We don't buy prepackaged/prepared ready to eat meals. We don't buy a lot of name brand foods except maybe meat - we like certain brands of sausage and hot dogs because they have been locally made for over 100 years and their quality and reputation is well known. Cereal from Aldi, rice from Aldi, pasta from Trader Joes as it is from Italy and healthier, eggs from roadside stands that are free range, milk is actually the boxed shelf stable milk from Dollar Tree as it is from US dairies and there is less weight buying by the quart at what equates to $5 a gallon. We buy different things from different stores and shop the sales. We also have BJ's, Sam's Club, and Costco memberships. The savings more than cover the membership costs.

If you want to go to one store for convenience and buy everything at once, you'll likely pay more. I get it, time is money and maybe the saved time from shopping one place is worth the premium. For us it is not hard to hit multiple places in one trip. Price Chopper, Hannaford, Aldi, and Sam's Club are within 1 mile of one another. I pass BJ's every day for work, and Costco is the most remote of them, but I fo there weekly for gas so if we need something I pop in.

I do feel for those with growing boys that eat like locusts.

Grocery prices will more than likely never fall again.
Sirloin tips/strips were 9.99/lb (sometimes 6.5/lb on sale) last September. They increased to 15.99 before the iran thing. They're still 15.99 right now. That won't last long. I haven't bought them since they went up. Not worth 16/lb.

I plan on researching this. The last thing I want to do is pay more for less healthy food.

Thanks for confirming the video. I have been buying organic blueberries, strawberries, bananas etc. I am seriously considering  not spending the extra money. I can afford the higher price but I want healthier food for the money. I don’t have much  space to grow my own food but might try growing tomatoes and maybe blueberries. I don’t have a green thumb and the ground is terrible here. It will probably be a lot of work. H‑E‑B occasionally has Texas Roots fruits and vegetables. I just bought Texas Roots potatoes and previously had peaches and blueberries grown in Texas. I want to support local growers.

Minimize your menu with high nutrition. Pasture raised eggs, organic ground beef, wild caught fish, etc. It helps to know the source of your meats. We have a local farm that supplies a small grocery store with beef, and they also sell wild caught fish caught right from the Great Lakes.

Can you elaborate on the disgusting fake chickens

Those rotisseries inside Costco look awful real.  It must be a jedi mind trick making me think the chickens on those rotisserie machines are real.

We are all owed $13,000 and have yet to receive $1 of it.

Just remember folks different feather same bird.

This is all orchestrated by design.

It’s only going to get worse.  But you all can keep thinking a president is going to make it better.  Life is bliss when you’re delusional.

We average about $225 a week for 3 adults (me, wife, MIL) and a 3 year old from Aldi. Add in another $200 a month for a Costco or local farm market haul. Add in another $200 for formula and diapers for the newborn.

Crazy it cost more for us to eat than our mortgage.

Also throw in our healthcare is more than our mortgage, and that's using Christian Healthcare Ministries which is "affordable".

Rotisserie chickens are bathed in chlorine.

They are not recommended as a healthy food.

My wife used to buy them but now that they are not "Bobby Approved" (an app she uses) she avoids them.

Yeah, groceries are expensive and it will only get worse due to the recent spike in diesel.

It has nothing to do with Trump.  We are being equalized with the rest of the World as part of the globalization program.

$40 Trillion in debt is hitting the dollar hard.

Be selective. Eat healthy.  Avoid the junk. Avoid dining out. Avoid door dash etc...
