One of the dumbest things Trump did was the deferral of SS taxes for federal workers.  Pointless, love having less in my check now.  Made no sense to do.  Grrr.

Of course it made no sense. It was a stupid ploy to inflate paychecks leading up to the election.

I too, am not pleased.

My wives check dropped nearly $200 every 2 weeks.

It's bullshit. She got a raise to G7 level 2, but her check looks like she makes less than a G5 level 2.

If you made more than $4k biweekly, it didn't apply.

Correct me if I am wrong … but you aren't *actually* getting less are you?

You are now paying what you would have anyway?

So, in effect, you are really just evening out … you're just on the un-fun side of the equation now.

Well, "unnecessary and pointless" pretty much describes the entire "COVID Stimulus" boondoggle, so why should this be any different?

And... buckle up.  We're JUST getting the free money started, according to Uncle Joe!

This. What's the difference if you paid it then or now? Some people needed the extra money during the height of the panic.

Right. It’s Biden’s fault Trump did stupid things.

There are a lot of stupid things Biden has done that are legitimately his, but the payroll deferral was Trump’s genius.

I think everyone in America should have nothing taken out,  then write a check once a year.  Maybe our taxes would go down.

How did this affect you? Or are you just bitching about something because Trump did it?

I'm genuinely curious whether the private sector could handle air traffic control on a large scale as efficiently. The Nav Canada system handles a small fraction of the traffic we do, so I wonder if it could be scaled up.

Somewhat correct, but you are back to "normal", plus paying back what you didn't pay into for the last 4 months of 2020. So, you are currently getting less net pay than you were. However, the repayment is spread out through basically the whole year, whereas the deferment lasted 4 months.

OP is right. I actually did "save it", setup auto transfer of the $250-300 per paycheck.

The problem is, they will not let us pay it back in one lump sum.

Our ONLY option is to have it automatically withdraw.

So it's effectively a $600 swing, from getting $300 extra to having to pay $300 extra. For no fucking reason.

I love Trump, one of his most loyal supporters... But that EO was fucking stupid.

Even better, they prolonged the SS repayment through most of the year.  I’m supposed to get a step increase in June, so that will make up some of it

How about me and a few thousand friends who were mobilized at the tail end of 2020, and now get to pay back active duty level SS tax out of our 2021 drill checks.

Mine hasn’t really changed. I stop paying Social Security taxes in the fall every year anyway as I hit my cap so my paychecks are always higher through the end of the year and now I’m back to paying about what I was paying back then anyway

Thankfully, I only got paid the deferral for 2 or 3 pay periods.  I had to work a good bit of OT last year.

Also to the guy/girl that thinks the vast majority of civ federal jobs should be converted to private....BRUH! You clearly don't know the half of it.  Some jobs can and probably should be moved to private sector, but there are many that would be to the severe detriment of our nation.
