I have recently viewed again the movie after many years and i Think is one of the best movies ever made. What's your favourite scene?

Where he says his name. He turns the emperor into the Joker.
My Name Is Maximus | Gladiator (2000) | Screen Bites |
|
When he sticks the guy in the chest with 2 swords, does a brief victory lap, then pulls them out and cuts his head off them like they’re scissors.

The story is an interesting melting of the true stories of Rome.
Commodus is... Commodus. The actual emperor and son of Marcus Aurelius who fought in the arena, supposedly dulling the swords of opponents to guarantee victory. Commodus was supposedly assassinated by a freed gladiator. The Spaniard is practically Germanicus at the beginning of the movie. Emperor Tiberius may or may not have had Germanicus killed, as Germanicus had the favor of the military and the people, neither of which Tiberius had. Then the Spaniard becomes a fighter for the power of the Senate in sort of a short lived Spartacus rebellion. Interesting shit. |

Saw it on the huge screen with terrific sound at the legendary Ziegfeld theater on 54th St in NYC when it came out--since closed . .
Those fight scenes were spectacular---there really are some movies where it's better to see on the big screen. This was one of them. |

Loved the combat dogs in the fight with the Germanic(?) barbarians.

I was always a big fan of that opening battle.

The Sopranos - Ralphie obsessed with gladiator |

I love that movie.
My favorite scene is when Maxiumus's fellow prisoner, the big guy who he probably fought against in Germania, tastes his food for him to be sure it isn't poisoned (and then pretends that it is and they all laugh). That one small scene there illustrates the bond Maximum created with his men and the type of man he had to be in order to do that. CG |

Probably the ending, walking through the wheat... then dude is burying his little figurines... "I will see you again... But not yet.. not yet." |

View Quote On my signal, unleash hell. When the flaming oil got launched from the catapults I knew it was going to be quite a movie. |

I am always awed by the battle that opens the movie. The long, wide angle shots of Roman artillery being let loose is stunning.

I tried watching it again not too long ago, and it somehow felt dated to me.
Felt very 90s, even though it was a period piece. |

|
I couldn't really explain why it felt that way, it just felt "old".

The "He was soldier of Rome. Honor him" scene. The way she said it, she wasn't asking and some of the most powerful men in the country fell in line. Marcus was right, she would have been one hell of a Ceasar.
That and the scene where he reveals himself to the emperor. Lots of great scenes in that film. |

Food scene where his friend tastes his food and pretended to choke
The big reveal to commodus Are you not entertained And one thing that has always gotten to me, why didn’t quintus get his comeuppance ?? |

The opening battle scene was awesome is on the big screen. One of the best battle scenes ever.
My favorite scene has to be when he gives his name, though. That was so powerful. When he went on to say he was the father of a murdered son, and the husband of a murdered wife, I really wanted him to slaughter the Emperor right then and there. |
