Struggling to fill its ranks, Germany's military is drawing up plans to recruit nationals from other European countries as part of a drive to beef up the armed forces.
Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen wants to recruit Poles, Italians and Romanians, magazine Der Spiegel said, citing a ministry document. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-military-foreigners/german-army-floats-plan-to-recruit-foreigners-idUSKCN1OQ14L What could possibly go wrong? |

I’m starting to wonder if we actually defeated the Nazis, or if they just opted for the long game, sorta like the soviets. The Nazis were pretty cozy with the Islamic countries, probably because of their anti-semitism.
Then again a socialist is a socialist. |

Funny thing is they could recruit competent Americans, but that's an admission of defeat one bridge too far.
ETA: I'd put a team set up by @RustedAce @sylvan and @RictusGrin against anything the KSK could put up. |

Yeah good luck getting Poles to join |

Oh cool so Germany is going to train its new rapugees to take over the country with its own military. What could go wrong?

So now Germany has apparently crossed the Heinlein threshold and no longer deserves to exist.

They should not need many, from what I've read they only have five operable tanks per brigade on average.

Yawn... Wake me up when the Volunteer Boer Liberation Expeditionary Force is formed.

Most of today’s Poland was Germany previously. Poland was about the only country Germany did not actively recruit from for any of their armed forces during the Third Reich. Some Volksdeutsch from Poland probably enlisted but Poland was to be wiped from the map so no SS or Wehrmacht units were named after it, unlike almost every other occupied country including Russia.
It’s ironic how this has changed. |
|
If they do this the FFL is going to have to start recruiting far more Brazilians and Colombians.
There won't be any shortage of Poles,Romanians and Bulgarians if they go through with this.If they opened it up to non-EU residents, they would get 150,000 Ukrainians standing in line to join up by tomorrow night. |

damn when I was over there in the late 80's the Bundeswehr were ate the fuck up. I cannot imagine it now..

While we only here about the French foreign legion, I thought this was a pretty common thing for countries to do.

They need to restore pride in the armed forces so they can recruit good people. No one wants to join a force that is looked down on by the populace.
Not sure if this has happened yet but from what I’ve heard they need to weed out all the Russian speaking East German types. They didn’t have a lot of prospects so they joined the army. My friend’s unit has to ban Russian from being spoken because the officers couldn’t understand. |

Ursula von der Leyen. Sounds like East German, Cold War porn star, lol..
|
|
Foreign troops will probably be more willing to fire on German citizens should German citizens decide to start showing their displeasure with present circumstances.

Britain is opening its military to commonwealth citizens who’ve resides in the UK for at least 1 year

this is never a good sign for any country........just ask the Romans, just ask the Brits in the 18th century.
|
|
They have their hands full. Why don't they just recruit from the huge number of refuges they took in from the middle east? I don't see anything wrong with training and arming that group of people!

View Quote However,as to your first point that is true, most Germans don't see much appeal to joining the armed forces. It doesn't pay that well compared to what they would make working civilian jobs, especially in a strong economy, and for cultural reasons, being proud of the military is taboo. The best approximation is comparing the rate at which Americans from say Georgia join the military rather than Massachusetts. |

So nobody wants to fight for a country that doesnt fight for them? I am shocked.
|
|
That is pretty pathetic, maybe they should hire a mercenary army?

For German Army, read new EU VolksDivision
What happened to that joint Boxhead/Frog division that was formed a few years ago? |
|
They literally have less working helicopters or heavy armor than the average sized National Guard.
There was a story that claimed that they had some participating in maneuvers with broomsticks because they didn't have enough rifles for even the few that they had. If France were to invade and annex them, they'd win EASILY. This is all the result of them shrinking their armed forces to zero length and spending it all on their socialism and migrant campaigns, because the US was providing the entire sum of their defense, gratis. |
