I hope everyone is enjoying General Conference this weekend. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2021/10?lang=eng |

I enjoyed it. Nearly all the talks were very focused on Christ. Knowing him, following him, striving to emulate his example, serving others and loving our neighbors. Even Pres. Oaks probably didn't upset too many of the progs today. I love his talks. But there's always tomorrow... |

But there's always tomorrow... Progs are still sound up over Elder Holland's muskets talk. On the subject of the most controversial aspects of Hollands talk and mentioning Oaks. In 2019, Oaks gave a great talk "Two Great Commandments." Link Oaks defended and emphasized the, "Proclamation on the Family," and keeping the commandments while also commanding us to be kinder to gay people... "Further, we must never persecute those who do not share our beliefs and commitments.20 Regretfully, some persons facing these issues continue to feel marginalized and rejected by some members and leaders in our families, wards, and stakes. We must all strive to be kinder and more civil." Oaks has told us under no uncertain terms to be kind and Christlike to gay folks. I sustain Holland and Oaks as leaders. I enjoyed Conference weekend. |

I did as well. Very uplifting. Oddly, Holland played a large part in my conversion. |

Quoted: Did we give women the priesthood yet? With all of the other changes I figured this was on tap this time. In a living, changing Church founded on the principle of continuing revelation, get used to change. Women already hold the priesthood. There are women General Authorities, women hold callings, and women attend and serve in the Temple. They do all those things with the priesthood. They don’t hold certain callings and offices of the priesthood, currently. But change in a living, changing Church? It happens. We do not believe the heavens are closed, and more revelation on many areas and teaching is entirely possible. More scriptures even— is entirely possible. Give women the priesthood? Women already have the priesthood. Give women more callings and more offices of the priesthood? Change happens in a living, changing Church. |

Quoted: I keep getting hung up on all the vaccination BS. Telling members to go get the experimental shot. What happened to agency? Don't let bias cloud what was actually said. It's tough for me on some issues, also. The Prophet speaks on many issues, but that doesn't take away our agency. The Prophet counsels, then we act (or not). |

Quoted: I keep getting hung up on all the vaccination BS. Telling members to go get the experimental shot. What happened to agency? You have agency to follow the counsel of the Prophet. Who was a famous doctor and a combat lifesaver (Korea). I got my first shot in Dec 2020. Nelson got his shot Jan 2021. I didn’t need to get told to get it. I got Pfizer and had no after effects. My wife got hers a month ago and got mild cold symptoms for about a day after. Same… Pfizer. Don’t want to follow pioneer heart surgeon combat lifesaver Nelson? Don’t. The outcome of not following the prophet is you might get Covid. You have agency. Don’t want to follow the prophet? Don’t. You have the agency. You have the agency to attend Church on Sunday, read your scriptures daily, and have family prayer too. Don’t want to? Don’t. I encourage you to, but you do you. I got the vaccine without being told to. No side effects. All of my kids have all of their required vaccines. I got all my required vaccines growing up and whatever vaccines my mission required. The Church has a long history of encouraging vaccines and using Church humanitarian funds to fund global vaccines. Want my advice? Follow combat lifesaver Nelson. And not just on vaccines. He is a true leader… But in the end, you do you. |
