Energy/Matter. Each, one side of the same coin. Infinity/Finite, respectively. And what is the product of the two? Light/Consciousness.

Wow!  That's profound!

If "free energy" is indeed possible, what about the infrastructure required to deliver it to users?  That stuff is not free, so there will be costs and profits to be made.  The user will still be paying for it.

Energy is not really matter, it is the change in matter that either absorbs or frees energy.  The common chemical changes are the easiest example, while the various nuclear processes are another, and some take enormous things that big stars can do, but we would find it essentially impossible to do on earth.

Materials will indeed be required. Matter -- that's the finite supply. Though, if everyone can have their own power supply, there may not be much need for some complex, interconnected infrastructure. I question the profits argument. Also, once we figure out how to convert energy into matter, that will drive costs asymptotically toward zero.

Free like beer, or speech?

Physics aside, someone will own/deliver it.  Energy, power, money.  It's a thing.

Free as in energy that isn't derived from matter as a fuel.

Licensed, regulated, controlled.  Politicians can't pass up the money, and existing industry will help them arrive at the proper solution.  I reckon there'll be moonshiners.

Keep in mind, free energy does not equate to unlimited energy. There will always be a limited/finite amount of energy available per given unit of time. To get infinite energy, one would need infinite time.

Power is energy per time.  That is, for example, one watt is a joule per second.  Now, humans use energy for useful work, but we want to do it in at least a reasonable length of time.  More power is good, not enough is bad.

Now let's entertain the idea the "free energy" is a thing that we can harness.  But, if the power is not there, then it is rather useless to us.  This is one reason why direct solar electrical power is not used everywhere, though essentially all forms of energy are from star sources with a lot from our sun.

Coal is free energy.  The original owners of the coal didn't pay for it, they just claimed it and said "mine".  The soveregn power accepted that, and they either burned it or sold it to another.

Under what context?

Have you discovered an energy form that is neither kinetic or potential?

If the government pays your power bill and you don't pay taxes, it's technically free energy right???

Sure.
How much will this free energy cost? how profitable will this free energy be?

Will it be banned or mandated?

hmmmm

Nuclear. E= m c^2
The binding energy in atoms is enormous.
That is what is freed up in nuclear reactors.

By splitting atoms (fission) or joining atoms (fusion).

Fission we know how to do.
No one has made a truly successful fusion reactor yet.

Indeed it is possible and has been around for a long time.. Great watch right here..
