It's like Miami Vice fucked Dallas and had a house.

Damn, that is some tacky office space.

Group buy time. I grew up in that area. I remember back in the 90s hearing someone was building that somewhat secretively. I had no idea until now it was Robert Plaster. He's from the area and fairly well known. My dad knew him when they were kids. He donated a fuckton of money to the local colleges too.

That place is a little tacky now and would require a gut job renovation but I will say that is an absolute killer location up on that lake.

Odd, Robert Plaster.

Skimming that video I would have guessed the builder/owner had more consonants in their name.

Tacky is generous. That place is hideous. Looks like a bank lobby. Most uncomfortable looking supposed home I've ever seen.

We'll probably see more of this as commercial real estate goes bust and is converted to residential

Not gonna lie.

I'd buy it, and spend all my time picking up 50yo cougars who miss the 1980s.

I don't know what you would do with that place.  It is so dated in style that not many people would want it.

Turn it into an 80's themed resort.

I could see someone hosting a hell of a synthwave set there too.

Clearly that property was never meant to be a home to live/raise a family in. It's a private Hotel/Resort designed to impress guests.

Exactly, that is just what I was thinking.

The place should be preserved as an homage to that great era of America... partly for nostalgia’s sake, and partly because renovating it would be so monumental that the $80M purchase price would look like peanuts.

But a themed resort would be an incredible use for the property. People love the nostalgia, and the layout is practically ready to go with so many private-bath suites and common recreation areas.

Only additional investment should be a fleet of noisy, unstable Jet Skis for the lake.

Sell the furniture.
Sell the art work.
Sell the fixtures.
Tear it down.

Build some thing that does not have the words "Ugly" or "Tacky" in its place.

I always wanted to live in a mall as a kid and that foyer reminds me of 80s mall goodness. Also can't beat a shooting range right off of the living room! Pool is way too small though. Disappointed there was no indoor pool as well.

Seems fairly cheap for what it is.
Then I remember the cost of building in places that are not southern California.

It really does look like a medical/legal building that was built around that same era.

About 10 years ago I did a walkthrough of a mansion near me that had been basically sealed since 1988. Straight up Miami Vice, so much chrome, glass and pastels, place was a trip.

I also installed a couple of tvs in a beach house that was a 1950s time capsule. Place had seldom been used and was never upgraded/modernized.
70 year old high end luxury sure was an interesting world. Sadly, that place had a date with a wrecking ball, buyers planned to use it for a season then rip it down..
Was neat/tidy on the inside but the bones were giving out.

Also was involved with the restomod of a 1930s mansion. Vintage looks with all the modern amenities.

The other aspect of houses like that that I don't "get" (and I work in them for a living) is the size.
Once you get over 5-6,000 sqft, it seems like it would be annoying to live there. Especially some of the 20k sqft+ single stories I have worked on.
"Forgot my phone in the movie theater, be back in 10 minutes" [starts walking].
"Anybody seen the dog in the past few days?"

I have joked with a few homeowners that they need golf carts to drive around inside the house.

I remember when that place was built. I used to fly right over the top of it so we could look down into the big central oculus. I always wondered what it looked like inside. Now I know. Looks like something Hans Gruber would take over.

Amazingly, I think I'd rather live in the Crystal Tactless. At least it's in a freedom loving state where I can shoot indoors or outdoors and I'm not surrounded by New York assholes. I'd walk around all day in a plush, gold embroidered bath robe with a gold plated Desert Eagle in the pocket, hosed down in Dakar Noir, and my ever-present crystal tumbler of bourbon and Tab soda walking from room to room with 80's TV shows on full rotation on every TV in the house. I'd hire local strippers to hang out by the pool wearing 80's style bikinis. I'd buy a Countach. It'd be glorious.

Looks like the perfect place to film porn.

It's big enough you could have 100 videos filmed at once without any issues.

Places like this are seemingly built to be inhabited by people you don't know, cause you will never see them.

Here's a place not far that is about a light year better -

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/Brumley-MO-65017/236551157_zpid/

This is the place I would buy if I was an ARFcom bazillionaire -

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/9331-State-Highway-181-Gainesville-MO-65655/2076476452_zpid/

I saw another listing with 803 acres with the place.  At one time there was another ~400 acre parcel across the road on the NW side.  Anyway, it's reported to be filthy with deer and turkeys after no pressure for years.
