Hmmm. How close of a friend and how much do you think he’d care? Pics to judge if it’s worth it either way?

Depends on a few things.

1. How good of a friend is he? Are you willing to lose him as a friend?

2. How did the relationship end? Was it something she did? If it was, she'll probably do it again.

3. How hot is she? kidding

I took my best friend's ex GF on a date. never even kissed. He's had resentment about it for awhile...  This was just after HS lol, 20 years ago. He still brings it up every now and then.

If the friend is close, I wouldn't... Just an "acquaintance"? YOLO!!!

With literally billions of women on the planet, why take the chance? Must not really be a friend.
Yesterday 9:23:18 PM EDT

Nope.

I had a close knit group of friends implode after 1 smashed the others ex-wife. They don’t speak to this day over some broad on a failed 4th marriage.
You see that head come apart?

I know a couple of not extremely close friends that have done this after asking if the ex had a problem with it.  Both of them viewed it like “Not my wife anymore, go for it.”  Both instances also ended up becoming long term second marriages, so it can work without drama.  One of the first marriages ended on cool terms with one child, but not a nasty ending.

Ex for a reason. Why invite that into your life?

You will likely lose the friendship. Not simply make it weird. If you aren't comfortable asking him 1st, then just don't.

She is his ex for a reason. If you are just looking to get laid, don't risk the friendship for that. If you can't find a woman of her caliber elsewhere, you aren't going to last with her.

If you don't care about the friend AND you want a relationship with her AND you think she isn't going to wreck your life, then maybe. But that's a maybe and it's the bet case scenario.

If he is a member here, you're going to be the subject of news headlines/thread titles in the future.

Are you single?
Are you hunting?
Is she hunting?

If I was single, and my best friend ex was coming on to me, i would sit him down with some very good bourbon and tell him about it.

All women feel reasonably good on the inside. But it's hard to find another man you consider a brother.

--ETA:  I read the Poll Wrong.  I thought it was "Friend of my ex-wife", not "ex wife of my friend" somehow.

So if you're looking for "Friend of my ex wife here's my advice:

————————————————————————————

She's already heard all the dirt about you multiple times from your ex.

If she's heard all that and still wants to go out with you, go for it.

Off Limits.

If you respect the guy, then you know there was a reason he isn't with the woman anymore.

You know she's gonna trash talk him, and after you and her split up, she'll trash talk you.

An old buddy of mine who, at the time, I was very good friends with. His tall, thin, long legged, blonde long-term girlfriend broke up with him and she was very clearly into me but I never pursued out of respect for him. He and I drifted apart a year or two later due to him joining the Navy at 30 and me leaving the Marines at 24 and starting my life.

I regret not fucking the ever living shit out of that chick at least once.

Do it.

The appropriate time to wait is 1/2 of how long they were together, plus a year. So if they were together for 10 years you'd have to wait 6 years from when they broke up until anything happens, assuming you actually give a shit about your friend.

The girl of your best friend or a guy you went to war with are off-limits for life.

Friend or just someone you know? In some areas, it’s unavoidable.

It really depends how close of a friend it is.

That seems like a pretty solid guideline.

ETA: I think it might be a bit light on the low end. Let’s say your friend dates a girl for a year. That’s long enough to be a pretty serious relationship. That formula puts her on the market 18 months later. That’s maybe a little tight.

Funny you mention that. Few years ago had the same exact shit happening but told her she was off limits for war buddy code.
