Space exploration is wrong right now, total waste of resources and man power.
They claim to know all this cool shit from telescopes and everything is so incredibly out of reach it's worthless.

Unless we fix our problems at home, who gives a shit that it would take millions of years of travel to our closest star, or whatever the number is because it doesn't matter.

We're stuck here, the other planets aren't habitable.
If you want to expend our entire planet to habit mars, go for it, I don't care.

You literally need to expend our planet to inhabit mars.

Blowing money on space travel right now, is like a homeowner that’s bankrupt, their family’s starving and eviction proceedings starting this weekend but your planning on a trip to Paris, tickets bought and all inclusive month long party vacation paid for.

We need to buckle down and fix our broken assed society before wasting resources on shit like this. Because IMHO, we’re closer to living in caves by candle light than living on a huge space station orbiting Mars.

Our society resembles the show “ the 100 “, our best minds obsessing over getting a old space ship into orbit while out side cannibals , inside communists undermining everything, and  neglected power plant radiation going to kill us within days.

I don't know why such a big deal is made about exploring space and getting into space when the Earth is already in space.

If we need to go to Mars, why not build a large rocket into the side of the Earth and push the entire planet in Mars' direction? No need to develop a special spacecraft with limited capacity and only "the chosen few" get to escape?  Additionally, as the whole planet moves further from the Sun, global warming is reduced due to decreased solar radiation and the penguins will live, the ice caps will grow massively, and green peace will be unemployed.

Once we get to Mars, everyone knows you just have to put your hand on the thing with the alien's handprint on it, wait a few minutes and an atmosphere is produced that will let everyone breath and live happily every after.  We can then ditch Earth, or use it as a prison planet.

This is totally possible within the next 10 years using existing tech.  If you disagree, then you are taking a giant crap on the graves of Columbus and the Wright Brothers.

You can get to a lot of places as a conman, but running two of the world’s most valuable companies ain’t one of them.

The hate for musk and spacex on this board is mind boggling.

He has singlehandedly transformed a communist model of space into capitalism.

SpaceX is the very definition of why capitalism is better than all the other systems.

There is baffling general fear and hatred of advancing technology, and mankind in general, on this board.

Seems like you can't go so far as to say you are going to make a sandwich before half the respondents tell you it isn't possible and that you should quit before you start.

Just massive defeatism.

That is true. Also the solar tech is and will be used for ships and early colonization. Until they can set up nuclear on the ground.

He has said in the past that Tesla existed to fund SpaceX and to encourage renewable energy.

Nuclear fission would be very dangerous on Mars.  Keeping reactor cool would be a big problem. No water to  cool it with. Very thin atmosphere for cooling too.

The only feasible way of populating other planets/systems, is with a compact set of AI surrogates that care/foster our DNA.
Once we become established on other planets, maybe we can beam ourselves or consciousness at light speed using relays to ensure integrity.

There's no way for humans to populate the galaxy except for AI bots to farm/host the environment, then raise us from seeds when the time is right.

You can (must) do cooling in vacuum where the only method available is radiative. Mars is comparatively easy.

That's not how orbital mechanics work. Our orbit from the sun is set by the sun's gravitational field, not some arbitrary distance. If we "joined" mars and earth together, the resulting mass would have a different orbit.

Also, even if that were possible, if we "pushed" earth further away from the sun we would all freeze to death.

Monatomic gold powder. It's a superconductor at room temp. Rediscovered by David Hudson in the 70s. Ancient alien stuff. That's why gold is valuable, it's the secret to space travel. We just don't know how to navigate.

I'm sure plenty can say both positive and negative about Musk....but the fact is, if I had to put my money on the table I wouldn't bet against him.  The companies he's built have taken on some massive technological challenges....and for the most part succeeded.

I think molten salt reactors in these environments could be very useful for many reasons. One being that they function as chemical separators.

Yes. But you can't just leave it outside to cool the reactor.

The 2nd one you posted uses water for cooling.

In not familiar with KRUSTY.  How does it dissipate heat?

There are Helium and C02 cooled reactor designs that dont require water as coolant. Not sure what they use to spin the turbines though.

People keep posting that they don't use water to cool the reactor.  The water is this heat sink right here.  Unless you can find another heat sink that can take away a lot of heat.  Mars has a very thin atmosphere. You would have to make huge heat exchanger to use just air there.
