They are still operating, my FIL went to school with the director and I’ve toured the plant. They build planes and fix stuff but they are not the Antonov of old. Recently they have been picking up military contracts for drones and transport planes.

JFC I hope so. That was pure craziness, but I guess on the upside if you FOD out one you have five more. Unless it comes through the cockpit.

It very likely was filmed by the Antonov people as an advertisement/documentary

At least they were still storing the incomplete fuselage of the second one at one point.

Got to see one up close at Incirlik AFB in Turkey during Op Provide Comfort. We were on R&R from Zahko, Iraq. Saw the tail from way the hell off as it was sitting on the taxi way.

Cool footage.

Wonder what those doors were on the bottom that stayed open?  Looked like maybe one of the sets of gear doors perhaps?

She is a big girl and she gets around. I have photos of her in KAF and I swear I ran across it in Turkey.   Either way for just being one that thing gets all over.

That is 100% correct when it comes to making the call to schedule this airplane

Super cool.

Seems like a pretty unstable rotation initially but climbing through 300-400(ish) the crew corrected it.

As usual, pretty goddamn interesting to see that plane do it’s thing let alone from altitude

Looked like a deliberate wing rock/wing wag to me. Saying bye to some folks on the ground.

It was hysterical when the supposed experts on Ukraine couldn’t  pronounce it properly last year.

I've never heard it pronounced that way for 10 years until those "experts" testified, trying to show off.  I spent over 6 months this past year in Western Ukraine, where the locals speak Ukrainian, and couldn't get any to replicate that pronunciation.  I also get a kick out of correcting Ukrainian speaking Ukrainians when they spell it Kiev.

I thought it was a very aggressive climbout for something that size.

It is. Watching taking off is scary. It would normally use the longest available runway to take off from.

There are talks about building more airframe with the help from Boeing. But that was in 2019 I think.

She used to come into Wichita regularly, flying Bombardier/Learjet fuselages to Ireland so ShortsBros? could work on them IIRC.

They’d park her at the North end of the tarmac, by the Cargo terminal. Even next to the 747’s she was a monster. Watching her take off always seemed like a 50/50 proposition…
Like the C-5, it just never seems like it’s going fast enough. Must be a size Doppler effect.

ETA: Now that I think about it, it may have been a 124 that came here. Still a big girl though.

Here's my Cool Story Bro....

I lived 15-20 miles east of Wright Patt in 2006.  At that time, the guard was still flying C-5s like crazy.
Several times a day, the C-5s would pass over my house at maybe 1000 feet?
It was the old ones with the sweet whining TF-39 turbofans.

C-5 Galaxy Taxi / Takeoff / Flyover - EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012

If you look at the 2:45 mark of the video, that's exactly what I saw several times daily.

They were doing touch and goes at WP, and I was at the eastern edge of where they turned back toward the base for approach.
When they passed directly overhead, they were at a maybe 20-30 deg bank.  My house was on a small hill, so they passed at about the same altitude as in this video.

My daughter was born in 2005, so as she got old enough to comprehend, we would both jump out of our seats and run outside to see the Galaxy's go by.
Even funnier, I had a Lab/shepherd and a Dachshund at the time.  They also recognized the sound and would begin running around like crazy, knowing I was about to run outside, and they would come with and bark at them.

That big boy goes to Charlotte NC all the time. People would stack up at the overlook on Cargo Terminal Road with their badass cameras and get some great shots. I have some nice shots but they're on a memory card somewhere. It really is a ridiculously big plane when you're standing next to it. You wonder how something like that can fly. And I have a private pilot certificate.

It makes a C-17 Globemaster or C-5 Galaxy look like a Piper Cub
