If they have useful stuff and the opportunity to do so presents itself - why wouldn't you? Also, someone is going to take it - do you want that to be actual criminals preying on vulnerable people or the folks that you're fighting against? Better if it's you because you can use it yourself, distribute it to people that won't use it against you or just destroy it.

I learned from watching a Skyrim video on Youtube that you're supposed to loot them, but also cut their heads off to line up on bookshelves. Then you're supposed to arrange their naked headless bodies sitting down like they're talking with each other, having tea, hanging out, and just generally living their lives.
I imagine someone might find that disrespectful in real life though, especially if they planned on using the bookshelves for something else, like actual books.

Can’t take anything home anymore...no trophies..you only “loot” them in order to take away any means of them causing further harm and intel.
As far as taking stuff to use later or during your current mission...not so much. I’m sure there are instances of soldiers taking an enemy weapon and using it to fight...but a vast majority of soldiers will likely not have that experience and probably just took shit off an enemy per their unit SOP. |

Morbid historical tidbit.
In olden days, after a battle the tooth collectors would remove the teeth of the fallen to be used in dentures. Since most soldiers were young, healthy men they generally had good teeth. So they can loot all my personal effects they want. |

I think all soldiers should be able to keep what they can carry and fit into their duffel bags. A pistol, a rifle, a subgun, and a beltfed. NFA can get fucked. Nothing explosive since I wouldn't trust that commie shit in someone's bag next to me on the flight/ship/train home.
