Last year they tried it just outside the bank my daughter worked at. She just locked the guards out of the back door and then heard what she thought was them pounding on the door but was actually gun fire. Looked out the window and saw the robber who was killed hit the ground.

A member here (or used to be a member) told a story of a shootout when he worked as an armored car guard. Don’t rember who it was.

As for robberies...it wouldn’t take much. A few years ago I was waiting for the wife to check out at the grocery store and watched an overweight female with plumbers crack loading an ATM. She came in with two lock bags and leaned them up against the ATM. Bent over...full moon, she serviced the machine and grabbed one bag to load it. Wife grabbed a Starbucks coffee while hero finished and locked the ATM. She grabbed one bag and walked way. I was curious and walked by the ATM...sure as shit the second lock bag was still leaning there. I told an employee, who stood by the ATM and radioed for another to get the armored car guard. When she came back in all flustered to retrieve the lock bag I could see she was carrying an old Ruger P series in what looked like an Uncle Mikes holster with no retention. I don’t pay much attention to these folks but if she was any indication...

Knew a guy who did it for a while, after he got out of the Army.  Told me it was a total shit show, workers barely qualified to carry a gun let alone shoot one.  Management that was worse than having 2lts in charge of land nav in the dark on a rainy night.  Finally quit due to the danger and management fuck fuck games.  During one of my CCW classes we had "Guard" trainees trying to qualify, it was literally the first time they ever handled a handgun and it showed.  You would think they would pay decent money for good employees but nope; hence the type they end up with finally say screw it, and decide to take the money and run.

One was robbed in Memphis a few weeks ago. It was an inside job.

October 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery

It was later dubbed the "hillbilly heist" because of the wacky, bizarre details of the case.

Joel Singer did it with class...using a 20mm to blast a hole in a vault (inspiration for thunderbolt and Lightfoot)

The best was when the one guard left his cell phone in the front, left the back open and unattended to get it and some Latino who carried off a bucket of gold dust.  Not armed robbery, but funny as f*ck.  In the old days there were three guards.  One drove.  One went inside to deliver/pick up the bag and the third watched outside the truck.  But all companies got cheap and reduced it to two people.

Cant imagine most routes would be worth the risk anymore. Hardly anyone pays cash in retail transactions these days. Probably better off finding the guy that loads ATMs on a Friday afternoon.

It seems like you'd need inside help just to figure out when the truck was going to be worth robbing.

It seems like you'd need inside help just to figure out when the truck was going to be worth robbing.

Which is why typically the big heists are an inside job. Otherwise you risk jacking a truck with $50k in cash and coin along with checks which definitely isn't worth the risk. I suppose you could stake out large casinos and figure out their pick up schedules and net a few hundred grand but to me that isn't worth the risk either.

Uh, at least in many places it is the armored car who goes to load the ATMs. My brother used to do it. They made the ATM stops with the armored truck same as the bank stops, etc.

Probably more lucrative to hit the folks loading ATM machines.  Knew someone that worked doing exclusively that.  Used personal vehicle and often carried around several $100k in a bag on the front seat. Solo.  Was also required to carry a 38spl even though they offered to carry their own 40cal.

That was a scary job and they left as soon as they found something better.

It's an Econoline van many times around here. I've seen it.
