[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt Reintroducing Blued Python (Page 1 of 3)
Oh damn. This will probably push me over the edge into buying one. Glad I waited. I wonder if Colt is doing the bluing in house or contracting it out? Not even sure if they have the skilled craftsmen to do that anymore? From what I have read the polishers used to be Colt’s highest paid employees on the shop floor many years ago. |

I have a 4 inch 1975 blued python near mint condition My favorite revolver by far. I would get one of the new pythons if the barrel was 4 inches instead of 4.25 inches Just doesn’t look the same to me Might eventually get a 3 inch in blue and a 6 inch in blue in the new model. |
Quoted: 4.25 inch barrel. I doubt I will be able to spare the scratch though. Im thinking $2gs+? https://i.redd.it/v6cibwwv52ec1.jpeg stainless pythons regularly retail for 1.2-1.3K now. I don’t see how the price would go up 70% when carbon steel is easier to machine than stainless. Maybe the first batch will sell fast at elevated prices for those who have to have it now, but street prices will settle. |

That thing has 3 vent ribs instead of 2 on the original. That's gonna mess with my OCD a lot. ![]() And I agree with the others, people are going to inflate these for the next 5 years before we see it dip below $1200. All in all I still plan on buying one if they fix that weird vent rib. |
Quoted: Its the blueing. Is the royal blue or just blued ? There is a big difference If they try to market as the old royal blue while it's just a blued like S&W does it will not be a 3 K pistol If you were to find an old NIB Python and look at the blue it's like looking in a mirror |
Gee thanks, I'm trying to quit. Seriously, I don't need another gun. Aw shiit Attached File |

How many times is that moldy old picture going to keep resurfacing? |
Quoted: How many times is that moldy old picture going to keep resurfacing? It’s pretty easy to get a return label from a manufacturer and send a firearm back to be fixed…colt haters just hold onto whatever they can to be mad. Aside from making excuses and pretending they had one that had problems but offer no proof of it. I’ve had some shit guns before too, I got them fixed it’s really not a big deal. Do you hear me screaming about how Ruger sucks, HK’s p30 is overhyped, or CZ’s com block steel? No I still respect all of them. |
Quoted: What am I looking at? Quoted: Quoted: How many times is that moldy old picture going to keep resurfacing? What am I looking at? A barrel with poorly cut rifling. Someone in another gun group I know of had a new production python that had incomplete rifling - the barrel was partly smoothbore. |
| I've had a 4" from 1968 and a gorgeous NIB 6" from 1976 that were fun to own. Absolutely one of the most iconic and sexiest guns made. I still have my 686 4" that I love to shoot and I got the 617 10 shot to go with it. As mush as I would like to have a new Colt Python, my dream revolver is a 4" 357 Mag Combat Korth with a 9MM cylinder to go with it. I think for the money I will keep saving. |
Quoted: Isn’t blueing now done under an “environmentally safe” method now and doesn’t look anything like the old school bluing? I don't know but the method that really brought out the deep mirror like shine I think had more to do with the polishing of the metal before and after . It's time consuming The one in the OP does not look like the old royal blue finishes |
My first thoughts are: YES!!!!,.....FINALEE!!! ![]() That said,,....I want the 4" to look like the Original Python. I want the original 2 Vent Holes on the ventilated rib. Not 3 vent holes They ALWAYS, have to do something to alter perfection ![]() Colt Python 4" Blue Close-Up - As others have already stated,.. we need a 3" model and a 2" model. -- We need the original Royal Colt Bluing. Not some "cost-cutting", "Climate change friendly" recipe. make a color cased frame from the custom shop? ETA: We need better looking grips. Those things look dull and dingy. Doesn't compliment the Python very well. |
Quoted: If the bluing is anything close to what Colt used to have on Pythons, I would be thrilled to own the 4.25" pistol...maybe even a 5". I would dearly love to own any blued finish Python with a barrel from 3"-5". I'm okay with just a nice blue finish on these . I don't see anywhere they are saying they are bringing back the royal blue |

Quoted: Bad barrel. Look at the chatter marks on the rifling. Crap happens, and it happens to every manufacturer. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: How many times is that moldy old picture going to keep resurfacing? What am I looking at? Bad barrel. Look at the chatter marks on the rifling. Crap happens, and it happens to every manufacturer. Colt took my new Python with barrel chatter and sent me a brand new Python with chatter. All the dumb fucks had to do was look down the bore….apparently that was too difficult. |

Colt gonna Colt.
