When did they claim ownership? Did they file a flight plan before it entered airspace? Did it have a radar reflector?
I have been involved in launching, tracking, and retrieving weather balloons in the past. There was always an element of, "Well, we just sent $$$$ of equipment into the stratosphere. Let's hope we don't lose it or get shot retrieving it off some guy's farm." We were very open with notifying authorities what we were doing and trying to avoid misunderstandings. |
