I’m taking Mosin donations, your contribution is appreciated

Because it looks better high for presentation in my opinion

Several years ago there was a thread where someone had a full case of Nagant rifles for a coffee table.

I thought that was pretty bad ass.

....so, forgive my ignorance on the topic, but DO the Mosin rifles actually ship in this type of crate when they leave their arsenal to be exported??

Never seen any of the crates anywhere for sale...

Yes, you could by them by the crate for about 1100 around 2006

Very nice OP.

I grabbed one a few years ago. I think mine was an SKS crate. I keep saying I'm going to do the same thing with these inside.

Considering the value of SKS these days I should probably leave them in the safe.

Wtf.

Don’t understand the infatuation with those garbage commie rifles.

Me too. Always. But looking back I'm glad AIM laughed at me when I asked about crates in 2011 or 2012.
A decade or so later, I'm no longer interested in Russian trash as furniture or mil-surp as a design choice.

I’ll explain it to you—-

I’ve got three rifles in that crate

The Mauser‘s from the Spanish Civil War

The surplus M44 from 1954 -the Cold War

And A Japanese training rifle from World War II - Occupied pick up

———-
I’m in finance, capitalism beat all of these Systems in so many ways, it was greater than both the Spanish socialist and communist ideals, soviet communism, and imperialism.

I run a mortgage company that specializes in wealth gain through private ownership of property… A concept despicable to all of those Systems.

And yet as a pure capitalist…. These trophies of financial war…are in my Office, because to the victor goes the spoils

They used to. My father bought a full crate of 20 for about 130 per rifle shipped in 2012 or so? Bayonets, oil kits, tool kits, everything but slings. They had their own random serial numbers, a mix of mostly round and a couple hex receivers, a range of dates, and 20 consecutive import electropencil numbers. They're in mostly gorgeous arsenal refurb condition. Lightly cosmolined.

Nah-GON.   Mosin isn’t pronounced as most people do, it’s MO-seen.

I wanted a crate of those when they were dirt cheap, but I worried it might encourage a break in. After all any visitors would see it and no telling who they might tell. They are definitely cool though.

Yes. Obviously they didn't have glass tops, but these sorts of crates were common with all of the various surplus Soviet stuff. I've seen SKS rifles in crates like this as well, and there were smaller ones for Nagant revolvers.

Back in the days of cheap Soviet surplus virtually every gun show had a table or two where you could just pick a rifle out of a crate.

Appreciate all the replies to my earlier Q re. the shipping crates!

Never seen them in the UK, but that's due to the different market here.

I was told a story some 30+ years ago of a UK dealer who was one of the first to start selling the Mosins in the UK in any large numbers.
The exporter was shipping them IN the crates, wrapped in old cloth....the old cloth was WW2 era material that went into making the sniper suits!!
Seems that this dealer made a SHIT TON more money from selling the cloth than he did from selling the rifles. Happy times....

Anyone ever re-purposed any of the more modern 7.62x54 ammo boxes?
Got about ten of them and keen to make them into something

Nice work. I have a crate to make into one, just no place to put it right now so it's on the back burner. Also got some dummy pineapple grenades to use as the feet.
