Cabelas Reno 6-7 years ago! I picked up a four digit (1966) Colt SP1 with its original scope. Was in perfect condition, for less than $1500 OTD.
You can find good deals on occasion. |

I saw a Remington Model 600 or 660 (can't remember which) in .350 Remington magnum with the laminated stock and that ugly rib that I wanted. It looked new and price was only $700.00.
While not a great price at all, it was in pristine condition and if I'd had the money, I would have bought it even if it wasn't a bargain. .350 Rem Mag is the only "magnum" cartridge I've ever wanted. I did purchase a "sporterized" Remington M1903A3 with a two groove barrel off the used gun rack for $400.00 (somebody dropped it into a Fajen stock). The only thing it needed to make it "issue" again was a USGI replacement stock and bands, since nothing had been done to the metal. Not drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Greenish parkerized finish was about 95% or better. |

Occasionally they get a collectible gun in that they must buy so low that they have it priced at a good value. Or perhaps the guy pricing it doesn't fully realize the value. However, its just the luck of the draw and you have to act fast or you lose.
About three years ago I was coming through Phoenix and decided to stop and check if Cabelas had any 22 rimfire ammo. (This was right at the start of the 22 ammo drought so I was always checking there if I was in town.) When I wandered into the Gun Library I spied a pristine 6" Python in the original box for $1,600. It had just been placed into the case for sale that morning. That was decent price at the time especially considering the age, the condition and the box. The problem was I really didn't have the extra cash for that big a purchase at the time. Of course, I could have tossed it on a credit card so I mulled it over while my wife and I had an early lunch across the street. I decided to get it and scurried back but by then someone was doing the paperwork on it. So its all about the timing and dumb luck with those places. Most times their used stuff is horribly overpriced but there's always an occasional nugget to find from time to time. |

In Scarborough, ME, a Saco import HK91 in about 97% condition with a hard case, magazines and a bunch of accessories for $2200. Thing is, there were 12 mags and the accessories included a light bipod, clamp on scope mount, a correct unissued bayonet and a complete PSG-1 stock (besides the stock that was on it). Apparently the "librarians" had no f'ing clue that the accessories that were included were worth more than half their asking price.

I saw an FR8 for $400. I went back and forth on in and ended up not buying it. Decided to go back and get it the next day and it was gone

Back in 2011 I found an HK45c german made like new for 450.00. I believe it was a 2008 date code. I swiped it up immediately. Around the same time I also bought a Wilson Combat scattergun 12 ga. for 850.00. It was loaded up with all the accessories. Surefire forearm light, Tritium sights, spare shell holder and Vander comp drilled the muzzle.
Most of the time though most stuff in that Library is only 10% less than new. Why would anybody opt for that. There are deals to find though. |

Generally overpriced but they make mistakes. I have bought several 20 ga sxs from them. A Fox, 2 Ithacas (NID and Flues) and an LC smith that were all very good deals. Also a1918 DWM luger all matching in very good condition for $1000. Most recent was a Colt Detective that was really nice, fair not cheap. And I did buy a moisin from them for $89. Should have bought 10 of them. Really nice and had the pick of dozens.
I did buy a P365 on special that was a good deal and paid in points which made me feel good about it. |

Yes.
I bought an AK for $650. Immediately knew it was radically underpriced because it was a pre-89 Norinco in pretty decent shape. Later I found out it was an 56S3 with bakelight furniture, which is rare as hell. Ended up selling it on GunBroker for $2600. |

I bought a Winchester 1873 (1875 manufacture date, set trigger, & special order barrel length;all confirmed as original by Winchester letter) for $1100. Was later appraised at between $3000-$4000. Sometimes you get lucky. But you have to know what you’re looking at.

Right after the one in Billings MT opened, I bought a Weatherby Mark V in .257 Weatherby and a Marlin 444 (both used) for 1k plus tax. I thought I was PCS'ing to AK but they sent me to New Orleans instead. They're both beautiful guns, not sure what I'll ever do with them now though.
I think that store closed? |

Pro tip for Cabela's Gun Library: Always ask what else comes with the gun. I've seen a Glock 34 sold at a high price for a used G34 but it came with a Vortex RMR, a ZEV threaded barrel (original barrel included) and ten magazines with Taran extensions. I've seen a Keltec Sub-2000 sold for $350 and it came with a new Surefire light worth $250.
Cabela's ignores accessories both when they buy used guns and when they sell them. |

In the last year I've bought two guns from the Cabelas library:
Glock 23 with Trijicon night sights $350. Same price as AIM Surplus minus the sights. I took it home for $250 with my Cabela's bucks. Winchester 1200 from the first year of production with fancy wood and no visible use for $250 I took home for $180 with the bucks. Yes, I look at a lot of over priced stuff before I buy something. Since I look at Cabela's bucks as "free" money I can justify taking home anything that is average priced or better. |

You have to be willing to spend a lot of time looking and passing.
Last year l found a 1947 vintage Winchester M70 .30 Govt 06 marked for $699. I traded a Ruger M77 tang safety heavy barrel .22-250 and $300 for it. Got a Hornady Vol. X manual with it and walked out having paid ~$325-ish. There was a 10% discount on used guns that weekend. I hadn't shot the .22-250 in years and had no interest in it. The Winchester is well worn on the outside but was solid on the inside. I don't think it had ever been taken out of the stock since it was made. Once in a while you'll find a diamond. But you have to be patient and willing to dig. |

I have gotten a few and been a little late on a few. Picked up a 90% pre model 15 S&W for $300, 99% Walther KKJ for $600. Sold both and doubled my money on both. Missed a new condition with box and accessories Walther GSP Expert for $600. Whoever priced that one did not know how much olympic pistols sell for new. I missed a few good deals on different Winchester and Anschutz rifles they had mis-identified, but nothing too crazy.
I mostly go into the local one to fondle their guns and see if there is anything new. They do turn over a lot of inventory and I get a chance to look at things in person before buying online for cheaper. I haven't spent any money inside a Cabbalas for at least 6 months. |

You have to search long and hard for a good gun deal at Cabela's. Only one I ever bought was a 24" Mossberg 835 for two hundred bucks, the action bars looked brand new and the chamber was clean. Perfect shotgun for out in the woods turkey hunting. Swap the barrel out for a 28", and its perfect for ducks.

Anybody remember the thread from years ago where the OP posted a pic of what looked like an overpriced MAC 10 at Cabelas? I have actually made a couple of VERY good buys at the one in Dundee Mi. I don't know if they didn't know exactly what they had but I had a hard time walking out with a straight face. I could have immediately flipped a couple of them for well over 50% more if I had wanted.
