I’ve only eaten bacon for decades and want to try some sausage for a change. I need recommendations…

I prefer an English breakfast sausage or a chipolata or even chorizo to a sausage patty.

The rules are simple: they lie to us, we know they're lying, they know we know they're lying, but they keep lying to us, and we keep pretending to believe them.

I really like the Smiths house brand stuff better than the Jimmy Dean.

You just can't beat Jimmy Dean Hot. I have a roll ready to go in a pot of chili. R.B. Rice Hot would be my second choice.

Jimmy Dean Country Mild. Good flavor and better that the hot version. The hot version is a bit spicier but has more grease. If you like heat, get the Country Mild and add red pepper before you cook it.

Swaggerty’s mild and hot are both good.

I am saddened by your plight. Allow me to offer my deepest and sincerest condolence. However, I do not have the Chaplain’s duty and I am short of towels. Please see the Captain of the Head for material for drying your eyes.

Blue and gold master race from a local ffa member is the only correct answer. Awesome in the smoker: roll in you preferred pork spice, smoke at 225 for 1 hr/inch, eat while hot.

Sorry none of those processed and packaged suggestions look all that great.
My favorite may only be a Northeast thing. Breakfast sausage links the size of Italian sausages. Better diners have them still but the low buck places buy cheaper patties or thinner links. A few meat markets still carry them and the markets switched to the smaller links for. few years before bringing the diner size links back. It got bad enough that I started making my own and was glad to have the skill even when they brought the big links back because they under season them now. I can grind a pork butt up, add my own spices, black pepper, white pepper, ginger, salt, sage, cayenne etc and stuff in a case and link it up. Any remainder is handy to have loose for sausage gravy over buttermilk biscuits. Right now I have about 5 pounds of home made in the freezer and probably three pounds of store hought fat links. A chub of Jimmie Deans or Bob Evans will work fine for sausage gravy too. I am not a big fan of making patties from a chub tube of sausage. It won’t stay nice and flat. |

We get some great stuff there, and the sausages are not just high quality, they're unique. I still buy stuff at the supermarket for convenience - just one stop for a variety of things. |

Will have to give Bob Evans a try, I've always wondered about it. A friend said Walmarts Great Value sausage was surprisingly good but I have my doubts.

I picked up a roll of Bob Evans Zesty, it was on sale for $2.99. Seemed a little more greasy than Jimmy Dean and I had to use a splatter screen on the skillet. But it tasted good.

The stores around here have Burgers bacon, jowl and other stuff but I've never seen their sausage. Their bacon's pretty killer too, but it's expensive even locally. Then it went up into "opulent" territory when the C-19 bacon crisis and subsequent Bidenication of the nation kicked in. Now I'm getting 'Always Save' bacon and it's really not bad for the price! |
