Simplex 33S by Desmond. Paid $50.
Attached File Here's one on Ebay for $99:https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F233406304913 UPDATE: Ceiling light is out. Under counter light was screwing with the BLC on the camera. Changed angle and turned on the flash. |

If you left the house to buy a new hammer, you failed.
But if you needed an old vise, you did good. |

Its a vice
What difference does it make if it's vintage or new... it's a vice. |

This thread reminds of the old traveling salesman joke where the punchline is, "Thanks for the tip, sonny. I'll keep my eye out for you."

Expected to see a 6 inch jaw Wilton bullet you got for 25 bucks at a garage sale.
Maybe next time. Until then looks like itll do. |

Nice find, op. My humble recommendation is to strip the paint off the slide and wax it with Johnson wax or something similar. It's been my experience that they'll operate much more smoothly then. Also, examine the main screw and make sure it's well greased. Simplexs are great vises.

Nice find.
Now spend another 50 bucks on a camera with auto focus and a light. |

Not bad, but I gotta one-up you with my $10 vice I got while stationed in Germany. Great flea markets there... http://www.framehousephotography.com/img/s/v-10/p3725341694-4.jpg View Quote Nice work. |

Simplex made some good vises back in the day. I have a couple and I wish that I had a few more, for the right price.
ETA : here's my 33s. I hope you get a lot of use out of it. Mine just sits on a shelf. In fact, I had to dust it off to take these pics. Attached File Attached File |

Sorry, but I no longer have any vices, as I am too old to get out of the Vette without hurting myself. My new hobby is live edge countertops, but I don't think that qualifies as a vice.

I'll share a few I like that I've restored. Attached File
Attached File Attached File Attached File But my most prized is one I haven't had a chance to restore yet. I've never seen another like it. Not in person or even in pictures. I have a copy of the original patent filing for it though. It's a Fred Moran triple swivel vise from the early 40's. It's a real beauty. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

@Vne , nice work and nice swivel.
What's the peg or cap on top of the swivel behind the back jaw. It kind of looks like a dog where a dog wouldn't be. I don't see it on the plans. |

I haven't quite figured out how it works yet but it's a grease point for that swivel with a spring loaded cap on it. It's sprung to keep the cap closed. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Here's an odd offset Holland from Erie, PA.
I wouldn't use it for HD use, as it doesn't have replaceable jaws. Also, the meat of the jaws taper away quickly on the top. I do think that this taper would be useful for forming tighter angles. Attached File Attached File |

I bought this at my neighbor's estate sale a few years ago.
Miss that old man, he was a WWII combat vet who had his ship hit by not one but two kamikazes and it sank, verified. He lived to be 94 years old and I'm honored to have this. Attached File Attached File |
