One dude had the pack and the other dude had the pig. So he says" we were connected like an umbilical cord, except we were birthing death." |

Whaaat... Medal of Honor recipient Bob Howard, for example, sometimes toted a compact, selective-fire M14A1 rifle, its barrel and flash suppressor chopped by 8" and a handgrip installed below the forearm. In it, Howard fired 7.62 mm M198 duplex cartridges, each containing two stacked 84-gr. Spitzer bullets with respective muzzle velocities of 2700 and 2200 f.p.s.. In effect, this doubled his M14’s output to 40 rounds per magazine. |

That, ......was a great read.
My hat is off to those who lead the way. |

Good to see Franklin D. Miller's picture included in the article. I stumbled across his book Reflections of a Warrior when it came out and have tried to educate myself on the subject ever since.

We had an awesome thread on SOG a while back. I don't see it in my subs anymore tho.

Same as in Predator. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4QagenzsK0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laqGgPWyp4k View Quote Wow. There were times I carried 500-600 rounds of 7.62 link. It was heavy as fuck. I was young and in awesome shape, and I wondered why I was getting my ass kicked on the road marches. Then I looked up how much it weighed, to carry the pig and all that extra ammo. Something like 7 pounds for 100 rounds, plus the 23 pound M60. That M23 system must weigh like 50 pounds empty. |

Gary Linderer's books are really good. I'll have to look at some of the others mentioned here.

My wife’s grandfather was a captain with MACV-SOG. The two guys in the back are his Montagnard bodyguards.

Grind the weld clean and repaint flat black or green. This was also done with AK and AR15 magazines to make larger magazines. |

I met a MACV-SOG guy last summer at a Goruck shooting event. I could have talked to him all day but only got about 10 minutes with him. He is still a bad ass.
I asked him what was the scariest memory was in Vietnam. He said they were in Laos and the NVA were so close they could hear them whispering. After the NVA moved on he asked his interpreter what they said. The interpreter said "When we find them, kill the Vietnamese and capture the Americans." He became a member of Delta and was on the Iran hostage rescue mission too. He is old and was still stomping around in the mud and rain with us while we trained on the range. He told me there are only about 14 SOG guys still alive |
