I have a thread about getting a Webley revolver .177 pistol so I can drink gin and tonics with a friend with a pith helmet and shoot starlings.
Is there a reasonably good way to eat starlings? |

Yep. Just ask the Cajuns. But they'll eat most anything.
I found this https://www.americanairgunner.com/wildbird/#:~:text=One%20of%20the%20traditional%20ways,Pepper%20is%20also%20recommended.&text=%E2%80%9CFry%20some%20chopped%20turnips%20and%20carrots. ALWAYS check your federal, state, and local government’s Game & Fish regulations before hunting any quarry and do so regularly as laws, ordinances, and regulations do tend to change from time-to-time. Click here to find the Game and Fish websites for the different U.S. States. One of the traditional ways of cooking starling is to remove the skin from their breasts and bake them, covered in bacon fat. Pepper is also recommended. Starling Stew with Olives “Fry some chopped turnips and carrots. Add a little stock and a glass of red wine. Place some starlings or other small birds in the pan. Add a thin purée of boiled potatoes mashed with beaten eggs, dry mustard, and some stock and a little beer. Cover with stock and cook for about 30 minutes, adding some ripe olives near the end.” http://www.salon.com/2002/03/08/recipe_birds/ Sparrow Pie 12 sparrow breasts… 1 can of mushrooms w/stem’s and pieces?. 1 can tomato soup?. 2 stalks diced celery?. 4 diced green onions. 1/2 tsp dry sage. Braise the bird breasts in bacon grease till golden all over, let cool and shred meat off bone with a fork. ?Mix everything together and spoon into 2 Unthawed frozen pie crusts in pie plates.? Top with leftover mashed potatoes. (Or mix up instants.)? Bake 35-45 min @325 till potatoes are golden. http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/395624/cooking-sparrows/10 |

I think you would burn more calories cleaning and eating the starlings than you would gain from eating them.
Sounds like a good weight loss program. |

They're good with Tuesday coffee made from snow. We're very thankful that the government provides it. On Tuesdays.

Every time I've seen a cat investigate a wounded Starling, the cat would sniff at it and walk away looking disgusted.

they eat them in europe... used to sell them on the street like hot dogs

It isn't "Four and twenty STARLINGS baked in a pie" for no reason, pal!

Probably don't really need to clean them. Just breast them out like a dove.
They are like sky rats here in the summer. Getting a few dozen would not be hard. |

Everything that is living is edible. Or at least parts of it.
Don't eat the sac thingy in the puffer fish. |

The only way to eat them is with a steaming mug of snow coffee on the side.
Mmmmmmmm...... |

European starlings are classed as an invasive species in every state I've checked. Kill as many as you can. If you find out they taste good post back.
I'd imagine the breast meat would be roughly small dove sized, cook in a similar way. |

It doesn't really stop people, a friend of mine that's absolutely not a gun guy bought a GAMO air rifle from the hardware store specifically to whack them in his garden. He literally walked in, and asked them how to get rid of squirrels. |

My Grandfather was born in 1909. He said they ate robins and muskrats and was happy to get them. He was born and raised in southern Appalachia.
