I'm about to order a 40v Ryobi auger and there's a 3 year extended warranty option for $55. Think it's worth it, what are GD's experiences with extended warranties for power tools? For something like this digging dirt and having electronic parts I'm guessing there's a risk that shit can break and it's necessary.

Are they really, really encouraging you to buy it?
It is out of the goodness of their hearts and they are just looking out for you.

On the other hand, we bought a six-year unlimited mileage warranty on a new Ford Escort some years back. The engine blew up completely thirty days before the end of the warranty. Brand new engine, for free.

No, we didn't do it deliberately, but it makes you think about your options with warranties.

Almost every time I've tried to use a Warranty for power tools or power equipment, the dealer or manufacturer always looks for any reason to say that warranty has been voided. Or they use the SnapOn trick of telling me that it's been discontinued so my only option is to trade up......with additional cash of course.

No.  I'm not going to spend the hours involved with making a replacement happen.

Most credit cards give you an extra year, some give two.

I can't think of any tool or widget that would justify more than that.

If it's a tool/machine that you use to make money - yes. If it's even allowed in the paperwork for the extended warranty to use it for commercial purposes.

If it's not something making you money then generally no it's not worth paying for an additional warranty.

Snap On didn't make me pay anything to get a new replacement for discontinued tool.
Same with Bushnell scope.

Good point. Try to find a same-model replacement on anything three years old and electronic.

"However, we have this new model with the extra chrome swizzle stick you never needed."

If 3rd party/extended warranties were worth it, they wouldn’t sell them

Odds are either you won’t need the warranty or they will find a way to not cover whatever the issue is, that’s their whole business model.

I got burned on a 3rd party warranty once

At that point, I decided to never purchase another 3rd party or even manufacture extended warranty again

No, but I hear your mom does.

I just got the red stuff. It’ll get dirty soon enough.

I drive a German car so they get used. The non-mechanic stuff has been used in two remodels.

Not one pro I know uses either of those brands.

All the mechanics that I’ve run across swear by red and all the construction guys swear by yellow.

Notice I said “flexing a lil”. Compared to what lol? I’m a home DIYer so that “collection” holds it’s own quite well for me.

You said "flex on the poors for lil". You brought the "poors" into it yourself, while the picture in fact states you are a "poors" as well. So therefore, you flexed on yourself

I too am a DIYer, but I shall not post my collection for I do not want to flex on you, the "poors"

*I hope you see the as joking.

I need to update my pic. Added a tool or two since the last one. Issue is I always have some loaned out so I never have the whole family together.

Picked up the Top Off 175W inverter and another 5Ah battery on cyber Monday. It's pretty neat. Plan on using it camping.

Here is my now infamous pic.

Missing at least three batteries and five tools from that pic. That excludes power tool accessories and pack out. Those are separate.

Ive got the OG one and really only used it for a 4Runner rebuild. I rarely use it anymore except to take the battery out of the mower to charge it. It doesnt really save me time vs a manual ratchet, but Ive got to use it for something
