Working with a young shooter who gets migraines from the *SMELLS* of shooting - anyone ever experienced anything like this? Any equipment recommendations to help them overcome this?

TIA!

Don’t do enough to make a difference for me but I had a cousin that was heavy into shooting and reloading…like every waking hour he was doing what he loved until he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor…a year later I was at his wake/funeral.
Kind if a strange person in that he never dated nor had a GF…and he always had a huge pot belly and his face was beet red all the time. Probably had more going on than anyone knew.

Can’t shoot indoors.

Gun cleaners can get to me. Also watch high speed film of a gun shooting. Lots of soot, debris comes back.

Also shoot lefty so my nose is right near the ejection port on most rifles.

Shoot outdoors, wear a n95 but even then, it won’t stop the smaller stuff.

I also try to shoot pistol more, gun is further away from my face.

Or a bolt action rifle as you can wait a couple seconds before opening the chamber.

Does a boner count?

Every time I get gassed out, I cough furiously, and pop a woody. Sort of full autoerotic asphyxiation.

Yes.

If indoors, respirator with something like these on it will suffice.

Thanks - Bolt action is an interesting thought.

Does the mask help vs non-masked?

Supposedly, Break Free CLP bothers people with asthma.  My dad had asthma and couldn't stand to be in the room with it.

Anything they blocks particulates is a good thing.

I also try to use non toxic cleaners/lubricants.

They don’t work as well. Everything has a tradeoff.

Ballistol for cleaner. Slip 2000 EWL for lube.

Cleaners don’t get to me, but shooting 1940’s Turkish 8mm and any kind of Tula ammo can affect me. The burn off from either of those really makes me gag or stuffs up my nose

Fuck yeah.

Old Hoppes is the best.

Maybe find some of that for your gay little friend.

Some of the solvents are harsh smelling, but doesn’t give me side effects.

I work in aircraft and am around MEK, MPK, TOLUENE, NAPTHA’S, and various paints and coatings. Some of these can be quite offensive in large amounts.

There was a guy up in a fuselage that had to be pulled out feet first when he started working with us. Come to find out from medical that was allergic to MEK, so he quit to go work somewhere else.

Black powder snd pyrodex give me a massive allergic  reaction.

I wouldn't  have made it through boot camp in the old days.
