Google "Anderson Firearms WildFire".

This looks like a pretty good lower. No special hardware. Looks pretty modular so if you do break something it's a small print instead of reprinting a whole lower.

I got some more Fusion HTPLA on the way.

The designer makes a huge deal out of using a standard takedown pin, can the pin travel the full distance to free the upper?

I'd rather have a custom run of extended pins for the Vanguard than have to remove or loosen that bridge every time I clean it.

Looks like the green parts in the picture have to be removed to remove the rear takedown pin.

ETA

Looks like it could be modified with a hole in those parts to allow removal of the rear takedown pin if that's a requirement.

I like how he included all the solidworks files.

Per the Documentation, the creator is working on another version to give better access.

Will there be future models?

Yes. The next model(s) are going to:

  • Unobtruded access to the fire selector and rear take-down pin

This thing is really well designed. Supports come off easy and it goes together smooth.

Cleaning the supports out of the magazine catch area is a bit of a pain.  A dremel and exacto knife are helpful.

I got the support out of the mag catch area using needle nose pliers and a utility knife. Not too bad but tree supports would have been better in this area.

No, the lower model has built in support structures that need to be removed after printing.  Add slicer generated supports aren't necessary and would only cause additional work.

So far, I've printed the Receiver, the buffer tube tower, and trigger guard, in black. Magazine isn't drop free, but it's close. Sanding should take care of that. Threaded grip hole chased with tap with very little effort, buffer tube threads chased with a little more effort (although I did go a little far ).
I haven't tried the pin holes for fit yet.

How are you guys printing these, with 100% infill, number of shells, etc?

And yes, the mag release is a pain. Everything else broke out easily.

I followed the pdf on the number of walls and infill percentage.  There's a table that includes this info for each part.  It seems to have worked out well.

Mine came together really smoothly, I printed one last month.

Upper fits, and the only beef is the amount of flex in the rear piece which causes the bcg to contact the buffer tube. Cycling when shouldered, it's fine.

That being said I printed the lower out of PLA+ at 80% fill, and the screws, front and rear parts at 100%
.
The overall feel of it is awesome though., And I think printing it out of a glass filled PLA at 100% would make that flex go away.

Anyone know all the thread sizes for the various clamping screws?
They seem to be standard fine threads, 3/8 & 1/2"?
For cleanup purposes. Just a hair too much squash on the screws, and just clean up the internal threads for smoothness.
The through holes for the front pin mount cleans up nicely with a X drill.

I think it's in the docs somewhere, but they're supposed to be really tight.

In other news, my lower ran 100 rounds no issues, and then the hammer pin started walking. This thing might need something more than the single divot in the pin to keep it all in place; but I also could have slapped it together wrong

I definitely wished there were less flex in the buffer tube interface, but it works well enough.

I can't seem to bottom out some of the screws, and the tiny slot in the screw heads feel like they're gonna break if I apply much pressure.
The instructions only say to soften the threads a bit with a very brief application of a torch.

I'll head to the hardware store today and see what their thread size thingy says. I can't find my thread gauges, of course.

My best guess

Side screws: 9/16"-16
front screws: 3/8"-20
rear screw: measures 0.468" on the threads, 16 turns per inch.

For the record I only cleaned up my threads at the top of the print (opposite of the flat side) with a pocket knife and they threaded right in.

All screws thread all the way except the one holding the buffer tube mount. I had to do some cleaning and chasing it in and out and it’s finally about 90% in. I still have clean up to do so i’m not worried yet, plus this is a dedicated .22lr setup anyways.

@billth777 what upper are you going to use?
9/13/2020 4:18:35 PM EDT

The threads are 3/8, 1/2, and 9/16 national fine. However, I did notice that my threads are a little bit off, just enough that I could not do more than a thread or 2 on nuts with the bolts.

The flame kiss in the instructions works pretty good though. I got the buffer tower bolt to bottom out easily, although it's a little proud.

Here's mine, still needs cleanup with sanding, especially that pesky magazine release slot.

@noR3Z Any luck with the folding brace? The HK stock failed for me on multiple fronts.

1. it printed poorly on the threads for the main body,

2. the buffer tube threading is undersized and slides in vs threadding in.

3. its designed for a receiver narrower than this one that we printed so even if 1 and 2 didnt fail I couldn't use the rails.

No luck yet.  I've sort of taken this on as a project and am planning on designing my own.  I'm currently researching the folding/locking mechanisms used on other braces.  My plan is for a 4" 22lr build based on this Wildfire lower so it may be integrated into the back receiver extension part 002.  I may start a new thread to get some feedback/input.

I just got my lpk and put it together. You definitely aren't doing any pushups on the rifle. There is quite a bit of flex in the buffer tube area. Feels like I could just snap it off with my hands.

Also just doing a function test my trigger mechanism is not working right. This trigger has been in another lower and works fine so I think something is out of spec. ETA: see update below****

On mine it seems like the trigger has to come forward slightly during reset before the disconnector will catch the hammer.  Not thrilled by that.  I'm going to load the .step version of the lower and do some measurements on the trigger and hammer pins.

Mine seems like a binary trigger. I don't really want to modify my disconnector since this is a know good trigger group out of another gun. I would like to know what you find from checking the model, I might do the same.

Maybe that's why it's called wildfire.

Somehow y first prints came out borked.  I printed in 2 different colors, not remembering that my Blue was regular PLA and the black was PLA+.  Nothing fit, so I reprinted the main receiver in blue, and I am still off by enough that nothing fits.  I am going to hit the threads with the taps and dies listed above and maybe I can figure out what is too big/small...

Did you use a roll pin?  The docs said to use filament instead and melt the ends like a rivet.  It worked well on the trigger guard area but I haven't got my parts kit to try the bolt catch yet.

I haven't actually assembled one yet but did a g19 and noticed the PLA+ tends to shrink slightly, magwell is tight for factory mags, the printed mags fit well though.  I'm assuming the AR lower will be the same.
