Decided not to spend it on guns this round. I got a really good deal on this beauty. This is my first Fender and my first real, quality, non-imported bass.

Who else treated themselves to something new lately?

These are great. I used to be a guitar player before I downgraded to 4 strings.

Thanks guys. I played one at a local store and loved the neck. I’m normally not a fan of sunburst but all the colors on the Ultra series looked amazing.

Congratulations that's an awesome looking bass!

I did spring for a Gretsch Corvette that I'm loving. I can't figure out why it seems to play so much better than my PRS Santana SE or my Starcaster. The neck on the PRS feels almost the same shape, size, etc. But there seems to be a huge difference.
It's like I can actually comfortably play it with ease. Not so much the others.

Nice bass, OP.

If anyone's interested in quiet practice, I think the Nux Mighty Plug is pretty sweet. It's a headphone amp with modeling for both guitar and bass. I haven't tried the bass models yet but the guitar ones are pretty cool. I used it on a recent trip and I was glad to have it since I'd lugged my Pod Go but forgot some key cables. Not a bad piece of gear for $69.

A new piece of gear that I'm really liking is my Two Notes Captor. It's a load box/attenuator so I can plug a 100 watt tube amp into it, run it into an interface and practice with headphones and the only noise is the fan on the load box.

It's not as practical as a headphone amp or a modeler, but as someone who already has a couple of fairly loud amps, it's one of the best pieces of gear I've ever bought.

So all the stimulus money given out was yours? Good to know.

I see it as I got my taxes back and bought something I wanted with it.

Don't let the world bring you down my friend.

I bought another guitar with my last stimulus.

Ibanez RG550 Genesis in Desert Yellow...this is not my picture, just one from Google. I have already changed the pickguard to a dual humbucker pickguard in flat black, replaced the 5 way switch with a 3 way switch, and put a set of PAF Pro's that are hot pink in it. Slime green knobs and a Dimarzio Steve Vai Universe swirl guitar strap. It's my poor mans JEM777-DY. This guitar is awesome. It plays so well and the Edge Trem can take some serious abuse and stay in tune. Have had a PAF Pro in the neck position before, but never in the bridge. It is a fantastic bridge pick up. I read it was what Vai used on his P&W album, also what Satch used on his Surfing with the Alien album, and Gilbert on a lot of his Racer X and solo stuff at the beginning. Basically all the guitar tones I loved growing up. Had no idea until recently they were all using a PAF Pro.

I'll try to get a picture of mine up tonight.

I ended up not really liking the Fender. Was a beautiful bass but the neck just didn’t feel right for me and I wasn’t too impressed with the preamp on it. Found myself only liking the P pickup in passive. Luckily I bought it for such a good deal that I ended up making a little money on the resale.

Ended up just buying another Stingray. Still like my old natural color one more but it is a sweet bass. Next on the list is a MIJ Fender Jazz.

I have the same issues with PJ basses, I just don't like the bridge pickup, and the passive p-bass growl is so good, it's hard to switch around.

EBMM Stingrays are great basses, I'm debating a 5 string HH one or a G&L L-2500.

Sometimes we get obsessed with flexibility, but end up liking one of the options so much that we just stick with that anyway.

I already have a PJ bass that I love. It’s an old Ibanez SR800LE so it’s completely different from the Fender but I much prefer the sound I get from that.

I’m a big Stingray fan so that HH model is what I would take. I hear you can get a lot of great tones out of them. Part of me wishes I had gotten the HH but I’m forcing myself to have one simple pickup.

I think down the road I’ll get a 5 string. Either the Stingray 5 or I’ve been interested in a Ibanez or Dingwall multi-scale.

I got worried the other day. My wife came in the room as I was playing one of my new Les Pauls, eyed me suspiciously, and said, "So, that blue one isn't new?". I've had it for a few months so I said no. Fortunately, she didn't catch either of the Les Pauls.

Just reading these two responses to Mrs. CCW sent her spinning out of orbit this AM.

I think she is still pissed that ANOTHER  guitar arrived....and she doesn’t have a new floor yet.

The best I can do is smile and nod and answer 'yes' when Mrs. Wildebeest says "how many guitars do you have now, 10?" And consider myself blessed that she cannot count.

The actual number is more than 10, but I won't admit to that.

My son spotted the Goldtop yesterday. Its back/side are more brown than the others. I tried buying all sunburst basses but he caught on to that, too.

Just give her the answer using common core math.
She'll walk away thinking you sold some!
