Quoted: I absolutely love this guy’s story. You’re right, the League ran him out of town but he ends up being MVP. I loved that. I don’t really watch All Star games but I watched this one. From goon to winner, it was a really heartwarming story. The kind of thing that would make Don Cherry choke up. View Quote I bought one of the shirts he made after the fact. (For what it's worth Brashear broke it too by not obliging the fight, but that's not as bad as a pussyass swing of the stick. You or I could do that, doesn't make us enforcers.) Pretty much ended Lindros career with the hit he laid on him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JC7xyBuHrc. Stevens wasn't a fighter. People called him dirty, but he wasn't. He was big, strong, and punished people who weren't watching him. Talk about keeping your head on a swivel, if you had the puck, you better know where Scott Stevens was; if you didn't, there's a good chance you would need some recovery time. |

I wish hockey had been more popular in the south. We had a minor league team in Mobile for awhile and it looked like it would be fun to play. Nailing somebody’s ass to the wall and not getting thrown completely out of the game for getting into a scuffle. Looks like fun.

Haha... no he wasn't on Probie's level, I don't think anybody was and they'll tell you that themselves. It's very rare that everyone basically agrees on one subject when it comes to sports but as far as NHL enforcers go, everyone agrees that Probert is the boss. Once that's out of the way then it turns into a discussion about tough guys, like Chris Simon and Basil McRae. |

I nominate the entire team of the Philadelphia Flyers, 1973-76 - The Broad Street Bullies.
Hell they beat, literally beat the Soviet Red Army team into submission - so much so that they left the ice and refused to come back until they were threatened with not getting paid. I might add that they were the ONLY team to beat the Russians. If I had to pick one player - that would be Dave Schultz, The Hammer. |
