I flew a champ a few times when I was a kid. Belonged to an FAA examiner and he took shoddy care of it. I loved how simple it was. We used a handheld radio velcro’d to the panel.

You in the Middletown area?  My dad was the President/CEO of Aeronca in the 80's and I got to visit the plant several times when I came home on leave.  Never made it to the fly-in.

Yep. Not far at all.  I've been to the last 4 or 5.  They're every other year.  I fly over there for breakfast a few times a year.  There's a bigboy restaurant just outside the fence.

It's cool about your dad.  The company has a lot of interesting history around here.  Are you on Facebook?  The National Aeronca Association is big on there.  Lots of pictures from Middletown.

I’m recovering my Champ. Won’t be flying it for a bit.

Got my tailwheel endorsement in a Champ in the mid 90s. My instructor was still grumbling about this newfangled tailwheel endorsement at the time.

Is that rebar?

Rebar probably would have been easier to weld than that dam thin wall tubing.

Fly a 46 Champ dressed up to look like an L16 for a local warplane museum.  Flew it bunch this weekend.  Really wish this one had the 85 horse motor.  65 is just enough and not a horse more.

Not an Aeronca but my 1967 7KCAB Citabria is still on the same 7 series type certificate.

With 150 hp it climbs out at about 1200 fpm at gross weight, and cruises about 125 at 2500 rpm.  However,  when throttled back to about 2200 rpm it cruises about 100 mph burning 5.5 gallons per hour.

There is an Aeronca at the Pacific Aviation Museum at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor.
