My favorite US armored vehicle of WW2.

This is an all metal M10 tank destroyer from Mato. Only it's not a M10, it's actually a M10A1, based on the gasoline powered M4A3. The M10was based on the diesel powered M4A2.

It needs correction, so I have 3d printed parts from Shapeways. The .50 cal will be the same as Fury, Tamiya with Aber brass.

Hatches and engine deck doors open, front fenders are hinged.

Turret tarp supports and track grouser racks.

And, the correction parts to make it an actual M10.

The engine deck, and the correct diesel M10 deck.

Gas exhaust, and the correct diesel exhaust and deflector.

Internals.

I want to change the gun breech. It looks nothing like the actual M7 3" gun.

I have a 3d printed breech which is spot on. I need to work out a way to hide the recoil and elevation servos though.

The first aid boxes athe the front were post-war, and need to be removed. The spare track link holders are  placed to far apart, and need to be relocated to actually hold links. Here are the completed corrections on my M36.

It would be fine to keep it as a M10A1, except that they were all kept stateside for training use. Only the diesel M10s were sent overseas and served in combat. Many of the M10A1s ended up being converted to the M36, with a new turret and the same 90mm gun as the M26 Pershing. Those did deploy and see combat.

Nice. I used to love making models as a kid.

It's already out. Someone already did a build thread on one of my tank forums.

My accurate WW2 Olive Drab paint arrives tomorrow. I've decided to model an M10 of the 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion during the Battle of Normandy.

I've always liked the look of the M10 with yellow, and I chose this over the MTO markings with the yellow circle around the stars since all of my tanks are going to be ETO vehicles.

Since the vehicle names began with the same letter as the company, for instance the image above shows A21 as being named ACCOUNT, although the actual vehicle was named ACCIDENT,  apparently the decal designer used a poor quality image.

I'm going to do a vehicle from C Company,  since I'm going to name it Connie, after my mother.

Well, crap. I just started reading American Knights, about the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Served in all 3 major campaigns against Germany: North Africa, Italy,  and Northern Europe. It was 2 M10s from the 601st that participated in the action that saw Audie Murphy awarded the Medal of Honor. So instead I'll be doing a vehicle of the 601st during the Italian campaign.

Work has started. M10A1 hull details removed.  part of the engine deck will have to be scratch built out of plastic,  as the 3d printed replacement is slightly too short, being for the tank hull not the TD hull.

Last part arrived.  Correct gun shield. The Mato gun shield is far undersized, and looks like a welded part instead of a casting.

While I'm at it, the horrible excuse for an M7 3 inch gun is being replaced.

I've figured out how to hide the elevation servo, which was located at the back of the turret originally. I want it hidden, since I'm detailing the turret interior.

now I just need to work out barrel recoil. I was planning on having just the barrel recoil, but I think that since I'm going to detail the turret intetior, I may as well make the whole gun reoil, like the real piece does. I have an idea of how to do it, just need to see if I can.

Watching footage of an M10 firing  with the playback slowed down, having breech recoil is definitely doable. Less of the gun recoils than I thought.

Found a resin conversion kit that I bought years ago. Resin kit to convert a Sherman to an M10. I gave up on it when I realized that much of it was inaccurate. However, it does have some parts that are useable for detailing the turret, most importantly to me, 6 3 inch rounds for the turret ready racks.

Removed the gun shield and mount. Lol, nice trunnions.

Mato got the whole structure behind the gun shield wrong. It will have to be redone. Hopefully, the correction, along with the correct gun shield, will allow the gun to depress. Stock, there is only, maybe, 1° of depression,  since the bottom of the undersized shield hits the turret. It can't even lay the barrel in the travel cradel.

Real turret, taken from the VMMV M10 restoration site. It is ridiculously difficult to find pictures of the M10 with the gun removed showing what's behind the shield.

I don't know which is worse, this, or their sorry excuse for the M7 3 inch gun.
