I came here to say this... Instead I'll just agree with you. Pink Floyd is timeless. View Quote Time Pink Floyd Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older And shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can When I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells. I studied those lyrics as a teen and thought they were pretty cool. 40 years later they still sound pretty cool. And dat solo. |

define "greatest." Longevity? Number of albums sold? Number of Top Ten songs?
define "rock and roll." Slayer and Iron Maiden not Rock and Roll, they are metal. |
|

Can’t just pick one.
Stones. Journey. Eagles. Led. Classic rock wouldn’t be what it is without any of them. |

View Quote Yep, its really way too personal. To each his own. I have more of a Top 10 list and even that varies based on my mood, state of mind. Influence is also under rated. There are guys out there that influenced some of the greats but barely made a blip on the radar. Take the old Blues men. The heavily influenced people like Clapton who influenced another generation who influenced.... |

The stones,The Who or Led Zeppelin. The beatles sucked and were pop.Fuck them View Quote I'd say The Rolling Stones come in to open for The Who, Led Zepplin plays on the second stage. Stones managed to do it longer, but I think The Who put rock and roll into new places the others never did. [Now, if you are going to talk Heavy Metal, then Black Sabbath is it, only it and anybody saying someone else is on crank.] |

Fleetwood Mac
Eric Clapton Dire Straits Tom Petty - awesome music and great crowds - his showmanship sucked Tony Bennett - LOL Not an easy answer to your question. |

[#16]
I'd probably give you a different answer depending on my mood and the day.
There are so many great bands that are so different that it would be difficult to quantify. I love Fleetwood Mac. There are days I start at Peter Green's FM and work my way through Danny Kirwin, Bob Welch, early Christine McVie, and Buckinham/Nicks. Through the various members and ups and downs, they've been a great band. But then I love Zepplin and Pink Floyd and many other bands of that time. I love Chevelle and Perfect Circle as well. That's a hard question OP |
|
[#17]
There are too many that I like to pick one band over the others. Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin come to mind.

Elvis Presley is the King.
The Rolling Stones are the greatest band. I can also make an argument for Guns and Roses, The Velvet Underground, and several others. There really is no "greatest". Rock 'n Roll has been evolutionary and additive, with each generation taking inspiration from what came before. Without Elvis, there are no Beatles. Without Lou Reed, there is no Punk. Without Aerosmith, there is no G'nR. Without Kiss, the world would have been a better place.... |

Rolling Stones due to:
Longevity - pretty hard to argue. Broke new ground & infuenced other bands’ sound. Stayed largely true to rock’s foundation in the blues. In the day, they were seen as the rebellious bad boys to the Beatles’ loveable moptops. Beatles: Love, Love, Love. Stones: Streetfightin’ Man. Pretty much the soundtrack of the Vietnam war and protest movements. Merry Clayton’s vocals on Gimme Shelter. Lots of other band deserve mention but this is my argument for my choice. |

Too many to list and no way to narrow it down to just one.
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Stones, Guess Who, GNR, Queen are all serious contenders depending on your taste and how you feel on any particular day. The Eagles and Heart they have to be somewhere near the top. If you know music I don't know how you leave The Beatles or The Beach Boys out. If you could go back in time and listen to any of these the first time, The Beach Boys and Pet Shop Sounds might just be the one that makes you go "woah". Remember if you are back in time, you have never heard anything like this. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (Minus Let's Go Away For Awhile, full link in description) |

AC/DC and the Stones.
I place AC/DC above the Stones as they lost one of the best showman in the biz and rocketed on with Brian Johnson taking the lead. And the boys didn't skip a beat in doing so. The Rolling Stones have kept on rocking (how, who the hell knows) and giving their fans what they want. They survived tons of drama and change ups, yet kept on rock'n. |
