Instead of in their spare mags ?
Shell holders on the strong side of their rifle's but-stock , on their weak arm in a wrist-band , or in cartridge wallets in one of their thigh pockets , ruck or drag bag .........or like previously mentioned , in a dump bag on their helmets  |

Same place they carry their water, commo, NOD's, smoke grenades, compasses, lighter, multitool, IFAK, mini binos...
Which is the same place any other soldier carries their fighting load. |
