Plenty of 10mm and .17hmr.

If you get a 10mm .40 S&W you can pretend you have a powerful gun.

I hit four stores yesterday becaus I was bored, and all I saw was a metric shit ton of 12ga, .410, and a few boxes of 30.06 and 22-250. One guy said it was almost laughable when I asked if they had any other ammo. It's definetly not getting better here in central Texas.

at least one of the Academy's around here have 4.6x30mm in stock Isn't the only gun that uses that is that HK submachine gun? They also have 30-40 Krag, 260 remington, buncha other oddball calibers. I guess someone just ordered as much ammo as possible to fill their shelves

Every red blooded American male should own a 30-06.

I own 3. Best all around full powered rifle round ever.
If you handload you can load all the way from squirrel loads to elk loads with one.

.300 Weatherby Magnum has actually come down in price.

My local walmart has a few boxes.
Seriously, who the hell buys 300WM in AZ?
If you're going that big, quit fucking around and get a .50

My dad has one. My cousin borrowed his on an elk trip. He punched an elk center mass until he ran out of ammunition, then had to borrow a 30-06 to put the kill shot in it. I pulled 7 slugs out of that elk.

I really like them loaded with a 150 grain bullet. Talk about not having to adjust for range much.

All of this is good IF you buy off-the-shelf ammo.  I have a 30-06 and a 222 Rem.....  try finding powder, bullets or primers for either of those!
In over 50 years I bet I haven't shot more than 100 or so "factory" loads out of 10's of thousands of rounds (excepting 22 rimfire)....finding factory loaded ammo is one thing, affording it is quite another.

Around here (NE OH/NW PA) store are awash with .17HMR.  I'm strongly considering buying the Savage MKII in said caliber down at my Gander Mtn.

I've seen a lot of 22-250, 7MM, and .300 WM

It was the first time I went out looking for ammo in about 6 months.

This is what I'm seeing and it has me seriously looking into these calibers.

I've been all around LA County looking for ammo (5.56 / .223) and while I've been largely unsuccessful, I can't help but notice (as did others in line) that almost every store I'm in DOES HAVE plenty of  .30-06, .270 Win, and .300 Win.

Sucks for me because I don't have anything in those calibers...but wondering now if I should have

Oh no. More calibers is baaaaaaaaaaad.

Huge quantities of 17HMR and 12ga bird shot everywhere.

I've seen nothing else that is uniformly plentiful.

I've always subscribed to the 'have at least one of every caliber available' mindset.

I tried that idiot tactic between 1999 and 2002.
Sold off a lot of oddball milurps and Old West guns to get it all down to 308, 223, 45, 9, 40 22 and 38/357.
I came to my senses 60 or so guns later realizing that I loved most of those calibers for a reason.

Yeah buying a .300 remchester so that when there is a panic on and paying $1-2 a round is SOO much more intelligent and forward thinking then the guy who buys 5.56 or 7.62x39 for $.25 cents a round and stocks thousands of rounds.

Wow. How did you two find your shoes this morning?
