judge in that guy's story is a gigantic dick. This. Beating down on some shitbag should not get you 10 years, it should get you a medal. Not going to say the judge wasn't a dick about sentencing, but brandishing in a bar and forcing people to get down on the floor isn't something you overlook (or get a medal for ) |

Has anyone ever thought that vets are fed the same stuff over and over to think "Man I should be fucked up because I spent a year in Iraq/Afghanistan!"? It seems like that's just generally expected from us these days, and it doesn't make much sense to me. View Quote This. They say we're a threat so I must be wrong if I think otherwise. |

I have no doubt he'll be back to prison one day, courtesy of his inability to take responsibility for his actions. These assholes make life harder for everyone else.

What about if you went to Iraq as a civilian? Do we still count?

I watched the video. Guy isn't a threat to society he just came out of the war at a bad time when people with the issues he has weren't getting the right attention.
He's not a threat to society, he just needs a hand. Also not going to call him a Nancy. The government should be worried about us though. We've learned a couple things playing in the sandbox and we don't take kindly to tyrants. |

I'm just pissed it's so hard to find Iraqi babies to eat in Merica.

The tyrants should be very afraid but the general public has nothing to worry about. Now shitbags in the general public that is another story.
I wonder what they think about the guys who have 6-10 deployments?? |

Lots of vets are ending up in prison. Guys who had problems prior to deployment and that just exacerbated their mental illness, and others who developed it while over there. They get out after their contract because they hate the service, but never took advantage of the opportunities.

I have often thought that. I struggled with it when I came home after OIF II, everybody was making this big deal like I should be traumatized, I got to thinking that something was wrong with me because I wasn't all F'd up.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/11/12/army-veteran-recalls-the-unforgettable-moment-when-a-judge-told-him-your-time-in-iraq-makes-you-a-threat-to-society/
Chambers’ problems culminated when he pulled his pistol on someone after a knife was drawn during a night out drinking. He says he made sure everyone was on the ground then took the knife from the man and “beat him.” He was later arrested for attempted murder and other criminal charges, some of which he denies committing. He said he’ll never forget what the judge said to him during his sentencing: “Mr. Chambers, you’re service is a double edged sword. Your time in Iraq makes you a threat to society and I have a civil obligation to lock you up.” He got 10 years in prison. Towards the end of the video, Chambers pleas with his audience to find a veteran and talk to them. “A lot of us just need someone to talk to,” he said. View Quote Judge's statement was stupid, but I'm not feeling much sympathy here. Controlled the situation, and then chose to try to beat the guy to death after he had him under control? He also sounds like somebody had issues well before the military and is trying to find an excuse for his behavior. But I guess I remembered to turn my rage back in at CIF when I EASed. I did have some rage issued at the battalion level that wasn't on my property card, but I've got that secured in an ammo can someplace in case I ever have to go and AVENGE! someone. |
