The fact that the cops can legally become involved in this issue is sickening to me.

NO SHIT! +100
I don't remember having any type of restraint system when I was a kid except for the back of my mom's hand!  If I was told to sit down, I sat down or I got it!
It's amazing that those of us that were born before these pansy laws are still around to bitch about them on the internet.  Don't know how I made it w/o a child seat and a bicycle helmet!

Don't call 911. Call the state trooper hotline. I have it on speed dial

Edit: Channel 9 on the CB works well too...

Maybe in FL.  I know for a fact that PA took all the CB radios out of the state trooper vehicles.  Idiots.

Tough call.......I normally hate busy bodies but this isn't a "Darwin" type of situation.

That scenario involves someone placing themselves in harms way and in those whatever happens
is good Karma.

This is a situation involving children who do not know or understand the risks they are being exposed
to and it's the job of the adult in the car to do their best to safeguard the health and welfare of the children.

It's really no different than failing to call CPS when you know for certain a child is not being fed or
sheltered properly.   It's the responsibility of a childs parents to protect their children but when they
fail or actively risk that childs health it is society and it's members that need to step up and take over.
But only when it can be proven that the childs is at real risk.

No flame at all, but I'm very comfortable in allowing children suffer if it means less infringement of people's rights overall.  Anything can be justified "for the children".  This is how we got the ogre of medicaid for < 18.

There's also the flip-side:  The first time I called in a case of suspected child abuse it was all but blown off.  If I'm going to stick my neck out for some stranger's kid, you had better fucking take it seriously.  Never again.

As stated I see both sides of the argument.....one side hating .gov interference and the other side saying...."Screw the adult but kids need protecting."
Of course I have a perspective many people lack.....I have had to personally examine way way too many children seriously injured in auto accidents
that were improprely restrained.    Kids cannot and should not be held accountable for their own safety...they aren't old enough to understand enough.
Safeguarding your kids while they are in the car is no different than safeguarding them from firearms.   Any one that says screw the kids, let em bounce
around in the back of that death trap is the same kind of moron that would leave a loaded gun on a table for a 4 year old to play with.   Same theory.  Same
kind of risk....same kind of deadly outcomes.

Boy the Snitch Mentality is strong here. Sure lets turn in some guy you don't know for a TRAFIC violation. Some of you guys make me want to puke!!

Lord help us if they ever ban guns. Some of you shitheads will be turning in those violators too.

Bunch of busy body old grandma's.

Un Fucking Believable.
I agree about the snitch mentality, but if you think this is about a traffic violation, you've completely missed the point of his post.

I don't believe I missed the OP's question. He asked what would others do. Call or let nature run it's course.

It is a traffic violation, not a forcible felony we're talking about here. Regardless if some metro sexual fag thinks it's "For The Chilren" or not.

I'm slamming the Busy Body Bitches, whom said they would call.

No, I would not even think of calling the cops.  Parents probably couldn't afford the abortion.

If you were driving in a 40mph zone and saw a car with a 2 year old and 5 year old unrestrained in the front seat, would you call the cops or just let Darwinism run its course? No seat belt or anything and climbing all over the front seat at 40 mph.

Not for that, unless of course the 5-year-old in the front was the driver!

Had the same dilemma today. 5 kids, no seat belts, not brat seats, beat up car. I decided to let Darwin take his course.

I suggest calling them on the cell phone while unbuckling the seatbelt while you drive and beat-off at the same time.

That should keep everyone busy...

I remember as a kid we would crawl up on to the rear window deck of my dads 70 Cadillac and go to sleep on long trips.  But then again it was the 70's before children were born breakable.

You wouldn't call the cops.  You'd write down the tag #, note the county sticker (if applicable), and contact the child protective services branch in that county.

I've never done it.  I saw a lot more of that shit in suburban MD than here in OH.

When I was a kid my dad had built these bench seats the length of the bed of his truck.  They were cushioned and everything.  He had a topper on his truck.  When we would go on trips to Six Flags or whatnot my brother and I'd ride in the back.  We had a cooler full of sodas and sandwiches.  We'd look out the back window and do the up and down air horn signal thing to passing truckers.  Can you imagine what would have happened to us if the truck flipped over in some accident?  Amazingly I'm still alive.  Not only that but I look back on those times fondly.

And what do you think the cop is going to do?  Go racing out there code 3 to look for them and track them down?

Get the license plate from Mr Busybody fascist and go to their house and jack them up for an offense the officer never witnessed and that there is no evidence of other than one man's word?

Actually the kind of accident you speculate about did occur and with the same frequency as other types of accidents.
It's just that pre 1980 or so there wasn't the massive amount of news whores that exist today to make sure everyone in
America knows about all the tragedies that occur everywhere.  Throw in the internet and there are no "news dead zones"
anymore.    Lots of badshit happened back in those "good old days"....it just wasn't as widely published.
Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is a matter that is still up for debate.  Modern news coverage has among other
things made life a whole lot scarier in some ways.
