We got a dusting with some ice this morning. Found out one of my wife's co-workers slipped on a concrete step and jacked one of her legs up. She's going to be out 6-8 weeks
They are home health RN's so this girl's patients are probably going to fall on my wife during her recovery time. They only have 3 RN's for our area so one of them not being able to work really puts a lot of pressure on the other 2 to keep up with patient care. Stay safe out there. |

Quoted: It was clear and 27 at 6:00 AM this morning and all was good. Rain fell for about a half hour and now it's a freezing mist. We closed the office at 2 and will be WFH tomorrow. Schools are already closed for tomorrow as the freezing rain is supposed to pick up around sun rise. TLDR; Today wasn't bad, but tomorrow will suck. View Quote How does a vet work from home, exactly? Quoted: A few things for our Southern friends to know. I've never seen studded tires once in Minnesota. Zero. Rarely does someone have snow tires, I'd say 98% of the cars on the roads here have all season tires. There is no such thing as Southern ice. We get ice storms here too. Probably more than you do. Black ice is not what you call black ice. Black ice is formed at intersection from idling car exhaust. This can happen on clear cool days like today when it is -10 before wind chill. Black ice does not fall from the sky, that is just ice. I fully understand why a winter storm causes major chaos down there. There is not the infrastructure for mass fast plowing and salting. When it snows here we have way more plows to deal with it. But, it seems like there is basically no money spent down there at all. It is not like a snow storm is a once in a lifetime event down in the Dallas area. It looks like snow and below freezing is an annual event. Plowing and salting a couple of the main interstates shouldn't be THAT difficult. I can certainly see side roads and highways being a mess for days. There is still no excuse for the absolute shit drivers from Texas though. I see them driving terrible in the summer with their flashers on during a sprinkle. View Quote We don't spend any money on it b/c it's gonna be 49 degrees on Thursday, so any mess left just turns to water and goes down the storm drain. We just shut down til the ice melts, and then we're back to what y'all refer to as shirt sleeve weather. |

Central AR (my AO) is looking worse off by the second. Headed to town for more genny gas in a minute before the roads ice over. Fully expecting to lose power.

Granbury/Hood County checking in. I have about 1/2” ice on the ground. We are iced in for sure.

Carrying a load of steel from Birmingham to Ft. Worth.
After leaving home this morning ( I live in Texas), I listened to WBAP and their summation of the weather was it's bad and getting worse. Eyeballing the Loves in Van, Texas and seeing plenty of parking spaces, I continued west. Within about 50 miles of Dallas, the ice on the road THERE was enough to turn around and go to Loves. Having already had two calls in to my driver manager so far about the weather, she's calling me saying find the nearest truck stop and shut it down. Told her I've already turned around. Nice people to work for if you gotta drive a truck. Insert smiley face here. |

Just got off the Dallas North Tollway to 380. Wasn't bad except for the sleet insta icing my windshield. Defrost wasn't working fast enough. My wipers ended up accumulating ice and stopped working. Good thing the sleet/rain stopped right before.

If you look at the views from the DFW TxDOT cameras, it’s ice and very little traffic.

Quoted: Quoted: Why does the DFW area rarely get SNOW? it seems like its almost always just fucking ICE. It just doesn't snow much. Weather colliding from rockies, great plains, & gulf coast means cold, wet, and windy — summertime thunderstorms are just as spectacular. Additionally, it's the largest concentration of people in that area by far which means it's the only area the media covers. OKC & Amarillo get some pretty crappy weather too, but it's not the business hub the big D is. |

You do know he is a United States Senator I hope.
What, in your opinion, should be the role of the Federal government in responding to a winter storm in Texas? I'm glad for the fine work he does in the Senate. And I'm glad he is able to take a vacations with his family. Quoted: Did Ted Cruz take off for Cancun yet? View Quote |
