I doubt that "don't shoot yourself" is any kind of secret knowledge. |

Who the fuck puts their hand in front of the muzzle and pulls the trigger? View Quote People who have no business owning a firearm in the first place. I do not have ND's, because I keep my fucking finger off the trigger. Not that hard to empty your fucking mags either or remove the firing pin if you wanna test the damn thing. Some people are just lazy and content. Content kills, or blows holes through your hand, or kills your neighbor, or even your kid. ETA, this is why I haven't been to a range in over 5 years. Too many people that can't count to purple. "Duuuurp" |

I've seen a person unload a pistol by racking the slide and removing the magazine.

Well he wears camo, and isn't hunting......so he's obviously pretty stupid, this just proves it.

Unfortunantly there are a shit ton of people that buy a gun, go shoot a few times and think they know everything because everyone around them knows about .1 less than they do. There's a lot of people who will buy a handgun/shotgun for home defense, buy a few boxes of ammo and 'maybe' take it out to shoot it once per year. They'll think they're all set though and you're just an elitist asshole if you tell them that they need to actually train with their HD gun and get to know it. I know someone who keeps a 9mm handgun for self defense and they last shot it 4 years ago. |

Damn dude, sorry about that and prayers for you my friend
I know a local guy who did the same thing a few months ago...and yes, it was a Glock too I'm not gonna mention his name because I think he's a member here. |

I just don't get how anyone just pulls the trigger, not to mention the rest of it. View Quote Because somewhere along the line "pulling the trigger" became a muscle memory associated with activity other than unleashing fury downrange. Like maybe taking down the weapon. I've been on and on about this, but you can search my posts and see my view. |

Why is it that 3/4 of the ND's involving injury are entry in Palm, exit out side of hand near pinky?
It it a common thing to "shade" the muzzle with your hand or something? |

It was actually my ex-gf that did it. I just shouted "stop!" and gently removed the gun from her hand. Relationship was all downhill from there. |

So the post cleaning function check is good. View Quote Ayup. But now it's time for another cleaning . I know someone who did almost the same thing. He was putting away his brand-new (the day he bought it) Glock and pulled the trigger to remove tension on the striker (he says the manual tells you to do that) and managed to shoot himself in the arm. He's mostly better now. I don't think he's touched the Glock since. Why he thought it was a good idea to pull the trigger while pointing it at his arm I'll never know. |

I've seen a person unload a pistol by racking the slide and removing the magazine. YES, More then once, lots of people should not be shooting. Maybe I've had a long day. Maybe confused. Racking the slide with full magazine and racking every bullet out? Or just doing these 2 actions at some point? I remove the mag, I rack the slide, I fire at backstop since I own glocks....am I doing it wrong? I point at a corner of the garage. Only a chipmunk lives there |

Damn, I can't check that a weapon is unloaded enough before pulling that trigger. I'll check it, double check, and triple check before pulling that trigger, and it'll still be pointed away from me!! Hope he learned a good lesson here, and next time keep that hand away from the muzzle at all times, even if you think it's unloaded.

When I was doing my rotation in the ER, I had the opportunity to visit with a nice couple. The guy fired a .410 derringer with birdshot through his hand, blowing off his finger and thumb. His wife was in the bay next to him. Her large breasts may have saved her life. They absorbed the over-penetration. When I looked at her films, I noticed one pellet came very close to penetrating her pleural cavity. Had she been a cup size smaller, it would have perhaps taken out a lung. Scrubbing down a shot up titty was wild, every now and then I would hear a "plink" as a bb fell out and landed in the stainless wash basin. Good times!

I'm sorry to hear it--and hope he recovers fully. Man, that's just awful.

Better than a member here I know who shot himself in the foot because he was playing with a chambered pistol with no drop safety.
I called him hobbles for a few weeks, he was less than thrilled. Last I heard he still carried that C&R POS |

Too bad Halloween is over, he could have done the other hand and gone out dressed as Jesus.
I suppose it would still work for Christmas, though. |
