It’s the whining. I can’t fucking handle it. Both Robert Smith and Morrissey have the same ‘I’m in the middle of puking’ sound.

he has damn good taste in music.

A general, universal rule that is almost always true in music is thus: the simpler the guitars and riffs in a band are, the better the band is. Yes, I know there are tons of speed metal bands, etc. with 92 chords in every song, 4 tuning changes, and 312 staccato notes played in 4 solos on every song.

Yet, everyone can instantly remember the Beatles, Cure, Ramones, every band from the 1960s, every country song ever written until 1989 or so, etc. Bands that had 4 chords max and maybe an 8 note guitar solos, max, in every song.

They're extremely talented and awesome live..

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant thought so highly of the Cure's guitarist (Porl Thompson) that they recruited him to tour with them on their reunion tour. Which he did.

Never a huge fan, but them being interviewed when being inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was funny as shit. Some ditzy little blond girl was interviewing them. She was bouncing around like an idiot and asked Robert Smith, “ Are you as excited about the Cure being inducted as I am?” He just looks at her with that flat affect of his and says “Apparently not.”

1995
Aston Villa Leisure Centre

I was there early - and wearing an Alpha MA1 & black 501's - easily mistaken for door staff
Met the support group as they came into the venue

Once in the main hall I was about the second or third into the room.
One of the other early arrivals had been chatting, then once inside he got the eye of someone and beckoned him over
Talking to this other bloke for a good 20 minutes as he was going to be playing with The The that night
Had a good chat to him about the band & life, etc.
Only when he had to go backstage to get ready did the other lad bother to mention who I'd been chatting to - Johnny Marr!!

That night was probably one of the best live gigs I have even been to
Matt Johnson's vocals are amazing live
Got a few CD covers and the like signed by him afterwards too
Got all their albums apart from the country music one....

STILL not seen the Cure yet
One day I hope to change that
LOVE their earlier version of "A Forest" but with the original lyrics "At night..." - sometimes to be discovered online then it vanishes to pop up again!
ETA: Toy ya go 1979 version of At Night

ETA - 2: A different video version but the same audio
The Cure - (Pre-Version) A Forest 1979 (At Night)

Lived most of 1989 with my Walkman cassette in my jacket pocket with Disintegration on full blast = never got bored of listening to it....still sounds great now
Also picked up a great album which I played on a bit of a repeat for a while too about the time I started in my own leather workshop - The Cure (2004)

Still very into a lot of what I listened to  - especially Prefab Sprout, a local band to me. The lead singer Paddy McAloon is possibly one of the best British songwriters of the last 30 years, along with Matt Johnson.
Some strange local band connections sometimes pop up; I was in the air cadets for a few years with a lad who never mentioned his cousin, even though they shared a surname - and looking back, they shared a few physical traits.
Only came to light on his leaving party that he had a famous cousin. The lad had the surname Sumner, as did his cousin.....Gordon. Better known as Sting.
